Barrow County road closures for Winder bypass widening & construction

Press release from the Georgia Department of transportation

WHAT: Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) and construction partner E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc. will close Barrow Park Drive and Fred Kilcrease Road for the Winder Bypass widening & construction.

WHEN: The Barrow Park Drive closure begins June 23, lasting 270 days. The Fred Kilcrease Road closure begins June 30, lasting 90 days. Work is expected to be complete early June 2021.

WHERE: The Barrow Park Drive closure will start at the entrance to the Barrow County Courthouse Complex. Portions of Barrow Park Drive will be open to the Barrow County Animal Shelter from Pearl Pentecostal Road and to the Barrow County Courthouse Complex from SR 211. A detour will redirect motorists along Pearl Pentecostal Road to Bankhead Highway to Cedar Creek Road back to SR 211.

The Fred Kilcrease Road closure will start at Patrick Mill Road. A 3.55-mile five-and-a-half-minute detour will redirect motorists along Patrick Mill Road SW to Barrow Industrial Parkway, then Kilcrease Road before getting back onto Fred Kilcrease Road.

WHY: The road closings are part of a three-phased project that will relocate SR 211 from going through downtown Winder to a bypass ending at SR 316. The new bypass will include a bridge over SR 8 and the railroad. The current road closings are part of Phase 1 and Phase 2 which begins on SR 211 near Blakey Plantation and ends west of the intersection of Patrick Mill Road and Fred Kilcrease Road. A Phase 3 will follow at a later date and construct an interchange at Patrick Mill Road at SR 316.

Advisory: Exact dates may change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are cautioned to reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or downloading the Georgia 511 app.
