Breaking: Apartment fire in Monroe displaces four

A structure fire in Apartment A, 104 Morrow St. in Monroe displaced four adults and one youth on Tuesday, April 16, 2019. According to Monroe Fire Department, crews from MFD with automatic aid assistance from Walton County Fire Rescue responded to the fire and were able to extinguish the blaze.

“The fire spread rapidly through the apartment, with flames meeting crews at the front door. Crews were able to contain the fire to the A-side apartment, but the b-side apartment suffered smoke damage,” MFD wrote on the Facebook page. “The fire displaced both sides, 3 adults and 1 youth total who are receiving aid from the Red Cross.”

1-800-BroadUp was reportedly contacted to secure the structure and prevent further damage to the victim’s property. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
