Lifelong Loganville resident and former councilman Eddie “Neal” Byrd, 80 of Loganville, passed away passed on Tuesday, after several months of illness.
Byrd graduated from Loganville High School in 1957 and has served the community in many capacities over the years, including the Loganville City Council, the Loganville Planning and Zoning board, the Walton County Board of Commissioners and the Walton County Employee Appeals Board. He also worked with the committee to number all the streets and properties in Loganville and served as a bank director for the National Bank of Walton County for more than 30 years as well as director for Walton County Water Authority.
Byrd was a charter member of the Loganville Lions Club in April 1965 and held each office at the Lions Club with both district and state offices attending all state conventions for 30 years. He also served as a member of the Loganville and Walton County Chamber of Commerce. Byrd was a member of Loganville First United Methodist Church for more than 50 years, serving on all committees in the church. He was an Emeritus Mason in Monroe, Generous Warren Lodge #20
Byrd leaves behind his wife of almost 62 years, Peggy McMichael Byrd, and two sons, Danny Neal and Thomas Eddie Byrd.
