Breaking: Weather is keeping first responders in Walton County busy

First responders in Walton County are being kept busy with responses due to the storm.

“We have multiple calls going on. One house struck by lightning off Bold Springs Road and multiple calls with trees down from the storm,” said Walton County Fire Rescue Chief Craig League. “Lots of reported tress down in the Mt Vernon/ Jacks Creek Road area east of Monroe powerlines down.”

In addition, the City of Monroe had a traffic light post at Marable Street on North Broad knocked out by a tractor-trailer. Monroe Police Department public information Officer Shannon Haynes said the driver then took off.

“They’re looking for the truck now,” Haynes said.
