Motorists should expect traffic delays

ATLANTA – The Georgia DOT announced the award of 13 construction contracts for statewide transportation projects totaling $37,981,813. This included $5.3 million to E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc. for more than half a mile of bridge on State Route 11 over the Apalachee River in Barrow and Walton counties.

This was the second-largest single investment contract awarded, the largest being $6.3 million to Robinson Paving for a resurfacing project in Taylor and Upson Counties. GDOT noted that information on schedules, lane closures and detours will be available in advance of construction activities taking place. The S.R. 11 bridge over the Apalachee River has a completion date of Oct. 31, 2020.

In October 2017, a fiery wreck caused damage to the guardrail on the current bridge over the Apalachee River.

According to Georgia DOT, this July award brings the total construction contracts awarded for Fiscal Year 2020 to $37 million.
