COVID-19: Georgia deaths/hospitalizations trend down but slight uptick this week

We have been keeping a running total of deaths and hospitalizations by the week in Georgia since March 18 when the shutdown began. The figures indicate that up until this week, they have been dropping consistently until this week, which did see a slight uptick. These figures were taken on a Wednesday evening, week over week, from the statistics put out daily by the Georiga Department of Public Health.

At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, Walton County reported a total of nine deaths with 172 cases of COVID-19. That is six more cases, one more hospitalization and no more deaths reported in the last 24 hours. COVID-19 information in this report is a snapshot of the situation at this time.

Walton County

  • Cases – 172
  • Cases per 100,000 – 179.5
  • Total deaths – 9
  • Hospitalized – 29

Park Place Nursing Home has had 63 residents who have tested positive with 56 remaining active. The results are cumulative. One is considered recovered at this time and seven of the residents who have tested positive have passed away. There also are eight staff members who have tested positive and one staff member who is now considered recovered. In addition 41 of the staff members and 77 of the current residents have tested negative.

The Pearl at Loganville, the memory care building at the Retreat at Loganville, is still reporting four people who had died with COVID-19 and 13 residents who had tested positive. The Retreat at Loganville senior living building continues to report it only has had one positive case.

  • Park Place, Monroe – 45 confirmed resident cases, Eight confirmed staff case, seven deaths reported
  • The Retreat at Loganville Pearl Memory Care Building –  13 confirmed resident cases, four deaths
  • The Retreat at Loganville: one confirmed resident case, no staff cases, no deaths

Gwinnett County

  • Cases – 2,820  –  that’s 49 new cases reported in the past 24 hours
  • Cases per 100,000 – 290.4
  • Total deaths – 117 – that’s three new deaths reported in the past 24 hours
  • Hospitalized – 546 That is six new hospitalizations in the last

Georgia

  • Confirmed cases – 39,801 – that is 946 more cases reported in the last 24 hours
  • ICU admissions – 1,630  – that’s 65 more reported in the past 24 hours
  • Hospitalizations –7 171   – That’s 95 more hospitalizations reported in the past 24 hours
  • Total deaths – 1, 697 – That is 22 more deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
  • Total tests – 402,940 – That’s 24,784 more in the last 24 hours.
