COVID-19: Hospitalizations down over the last week, but deaths up

At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, Walton County reported a total of 12 deaths with 242 cases of COVID-19. That is no more deaths, 25 more cases and two more hospitalization reported in the last 24 hours. COVID-19 information in this report is a snapshot of the situation at this time.

 

Walton County

  • Cases – 217
  • Cases per 100,000 – 252.6
  • Total deaths – 12
  • Hospitalized – 36

Walton County Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities (cumulative) *

  • Park Place, Monroe – 76 confirmed resident cases, 26 confirmed staff cases, 10 deaths reported
  • The Retreat at Loganville Pearl Memory Care Building –  13 confirmed resident cases, four deaths
  • The Retreat at Loganville: one confirmed resident case, no staff cases, no deaths

Gwinnett County

  • Cases – 3,480   –  that’s 173 new cases reported in the past 24 hours
  • Cases per 100,000 – 358.3
  • Total deaths – 126 – that’s one more reported in the past 24 hours
  • Hospitalized – 595 – That is 9 more hospitalizations reported in the last 24 hours

Georgia

  • Confirmed cases – 44,638 – that is 655 more cases reported in the last 24 hours
  • ICU admissions – 1,753 – that’s 25 more reported in the past 24 hours
  • Hospitalizations –7,745   – That’s 105 more hospitalizations reported in the past 24 hours
  • Total deaths – 1,933  – That is 62 more deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
  • Total tests – 518,591 – That’s 3,646 more tests in the last 24 hours.

We have been keeping a running total of deaths and hospitalizations by the week in Georgia since March 18 when the shutdown began. The figures indicate that up until two weeks ago, they have been dropping consistently, but the last two weeks have seen an uptick in deaths but not in hospitalizations. These figures were taken on a Wednesday evening, week over week, from the statistics put out daily by the Georiga Department of Public Health.
