George Walton Academy was the lone success story in Friday night’s local high school football games last week, trouncing Towns County 48 – 13 on their home turf in Hiawassee on Sept. 20. The Bulldogs have a home non-conference game against Lakeview Academy on Sept. 27.
Loganville Christian Academy lost Friday’s away non-conference game against Brookwood by a score of 13 – 10. The LCA Lions are on the road again this week as they travel to Chula for a non-conference game at Tiftarea Academy.
Walnut Grove went down to Apalachee 30 – 3 at home last Friday. The Warriors travel to Bogart on Sept. 27 for a non-conference game against North Oconee.
Loganville’s Varsity team didn’t do so well at home either, losing to Winder-Barrow 34-21 at Red Devil Stadium. The team will be on the road on Sept. 27 as they take on St. Pius X Catholic School in Atlanta.
Social Circle took a beating in Homer last Friday, losing to Banks County by a score of 45 – 7 in a conference game. The Redskins are on the road again this week as they travel to Elberton to take on Elbert County in a conference game.
Monroe Area had a bye week last week. The Hurricanes are on the road this week as they traveling to Madison to take on the Morgan County Bulldogs in a conference game on Sept. 27.
Although the calendar tells has that we’re into fall already by this week’s games, it’s not likely to feel like it. The brief reprieve with cooler weather for the games on Sept. 20 will not be repeated this week. Temperatures are expected to be back up into the near mid-90s at the 7:30 p.m. kickoff time.
