According to Capt. Jeff Allen with WCFR, the garbage truck operator dumped the load as soon as he realized it was on fire.
“We were able to quickly extinguish the fire. However, this left a large pile of trash in the middle of the roadway,” Allen said. “A local resident with a tractor assets us with cleanup. No injuries, just a big mess.”
Allen said that Walton County’s Road and Bridges department sent a crew with a skid steer to finish cleaning it up. The roadway was back open by 1:30 p.m.
