Georgia DOT to upgrade traffic signals at 13 intersections in Walton County

The Georgia Department of Transportation announced that $3 million of the $9.7 million it has awarded in its latest construction projects will fund upgrades to traffic signals in Walton County. This is the second-largest funding in the August awards and was given to CMES, Inc. GDOT estimates these project to be completed in February 2021.

“This project will upgrade traffic signal equipment and update pedestrian facilities to meet current American Disabilities Act (ADA) standards at the following intersections,” said Katie Strickland, communications specialist for GDOT.

1.) SR 20 @ Miller Bottom Road/Rosebud Road

2.) SR 10 @ SR 20/Main Street

3.) SR 10 @ Tom Brewer Road/Trident Trail

4.) SR 10 @ Bay Creek Church Road/Broadnax Mill Road

5.) SR 138 @ SR 81/Leone Avenue

6.) SR 81 @ Youth Monroe Road/Center Hill Church Road

7.) SR 138 @ Youth Jersey Road

8.) SR 138 @ HD Atha Road

9.) SR 10 BUS @ SR 138

10.) SR 10 BUS @ Carwood Drive

11.) SR 11 @ Marable Street

12.) SR 10 BUS @ Hammond Drive (This intersection may be put into another project; I am checking with the project manager)

13.) SR 10 @ SR 83/James Huff Road/Unisia Drive

This will include installation of traffic control devices as well as ground disturbance activities in some instance which will likely require periodic shutdowns of utilities. A project contractor will notify each affected property owner prior to any utility shutdown.

Other projects awarded by GDOT in August include:

  • The resurfacing and shoulder rehabilitation on State Route 72 in Elbert County represented the largest project awarded in August. This resurfacing is a $4.7 million investment awarded to C&H Paving, Inc. Spanning 7.8 miles of contractors will resurface State Route 72 just east of Nicksville Road and extend west of State Route 17. The estimated completion date for the project is July 2020.
  • The third-largest project awarded will rehabilitate bridges at various locations along I-85 in Banks and Franklin Counties. The project represents a $1.6 million investment and was awarded to Louis-Company, LLC. The project will maintain bridge decks and replace joints across 25 bridges along the I-85 corridor. The project has an estimated completion date of August 2021.
  • The final project awarded was the rehabilitation of the State Route 15 (Sycamore Street) bridge over Curry Creek in Jackson County. The project represents a $335,194 investment and was awarded to E & D Contracting Services, Inc. The contractor will repair the sidewalk and light posts as well as maintain the bridge’s substructure. The project has an estimated completion date of May 2020.

Additional details regarding lane closures will be communicated as construction activities begin.
