On Friday, October 25, 2019 beginning at 11 a.m., a memorial service to honor the fallen will be held in the auditorium of the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC), located at 1000 Indian Springs Drive in Forsyth. While all firefighters are heroes, willingly putting themselves in harm’s way to keep the public secure, some firefighters are more than heroes; some have paid the ultimate sacrifice – their life.
The Georgia Fire Service will gather at the Georgia Firefighter Memorial Service to honor the fallen heroes, their memories and their sacrifice. The men and women of Georgia’s Public Safety community and the public are invited, welcomed and urged to attend as we honor the firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty.
“The Fire Service is like an extended family. When a firefighter dies, firefighters from everywhere feelthe pain,” stated Georgia Fire Academy Director, Ike McConnell. “The Memorial Wall is just a small token of our appreciation for the sacrifices made by the firefighters and their families to the citizens of Georgia. We feel it is more than appropriate to honor the fallen firefighters who lost their life serving others,” stated Tony Hightower, GPSTC Deputy Director.
After the service in the auditorium, there will be a procession leading outside to the Memorial Wall where the service will conclude. The names of fallen firefighters will be displayed on the Memorial Wall for all to view.
