Gwinnett county resident, 17, dies in traffic accident over the weekend

(Lawrenceville, Georgia)  The Gwinnett County Police Report Accident Investigation Unit is investigating a crash that happened on Sunday leaving one person dead. Asaviya Hazley, 17, of Lawrenceville, who was a passenger in the vehicle died as a result of the injuries she sustained.

“According to a press release from GCPD, at about 2:15 pm on Oct. 13, officers assigned to the Central Precinct responded to a traffic accident on Oakland Road near Herrington Road. It was reported that a car had flipped over. Officers arrived to find a grey Nissan Maxima resting on its side down an embankment in a creek. GCPD report that the preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle was traveling westbound on Oakland Road approaching Herrington Road when the driver lost control and drove off the right shoulder, overcorrected, spun, and then left the roadway on the opposite side of the road where it ran into a tree in a creek. The 17-year-old who was killed was seated in the backseat behind the passenger. The other three occupants were transported to a local hospital with varying injuries. Two were 20 years old and one was 15. It appears that none of them were wearing seatbelts.

The roadway was shut down for a few hours for the investigation.
