Gwinnett Police seek suspect in shooting death of motorist on I.85 early hours of Sunday morning

The Gwinnett County Police Department is seeking information in the shooting death of a 31-year-old man in the early morning hours of Sunday morning while he was driving on I.85 south near the Indian Trail exit. The victim has been identified as Steven Vallejo, or Norcross.

Vallejo was shot by a a man who was traveling in the far right lane of I.85 SB as Vallejo was exiting onto Indian Trail. The suspect vehicle, a silver passenger car was driven by a black male and was traveling in the far right lane of I85 SB. Vallejo was driving a black passenger car. For reasons not known at this time, the suspect fired one shot from his vehicle into the victim’s vehicle. The victim was struck by that round. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injury.   

The suspect vehicle has been described as a silver/gray 2010s model Chevrolet Malibu or Impala. During the incident, the suspect vehicle struck the south bound Indian Trail Exit “101” sign and should have moderate to extensive front-end damage. The vehicle continued I-85 south bound after the incident. The driver was described as a black male. The motive is still unknown, but road rage could be a factor.
