On Jan. 30, the year-long Walton County bicentennial celebrations begin. There will be events at various locations around the county celebrating the bicentennial themes of “Family, Faith and Future.” Some of the events have already been put into a calendar in the lead up to the grand finale on Dec. 15, 2018. Make a note and save the dates to help celebrate this historic occasion. It won’t come around again.
Jan. 30, 2018 – Bicentennial Celebrations Begin
After traveling around the County from Jan. 24 to Jan. 30 following the introduction of the new flag and a proclamation at the state Capitol, the flag will arrive at the historic Walton County Courthouse in Monroe at 6 p.m. for the official Bicentennial Kick-Off celebration. It will feature Walton JROTC, Walton Proud Chorus, Youth Leadership Walton, George Walton Academy band and all the mayors of Walton County’s cities.
May 18, 2018 – Bicentennial Grooving on the Green
Celebrate Walton’s Bicentennial in the City of Loganville while jamming to the sounds of the Atlanta Rhythm Section.
June 3, 2018 – Interfaith Jubilee
The churches and the faith of the citizens play an important role in Walton County;s history. Citizens will gather to have an interfaith celebration to include messages, choirs and dramas to be followed by Dinner on the Grounds. Consider it Walton County’s homecoming.
July 4, 2018 – Bicentennial Freedom Celebration
Celebrate Walton’s Bicentennial and freedom in the City of Monroe with arts and craft vendors, food, live music, kids’ activities and fireworks.
Oct. 6, 2018 – Friendship Festival honoring Walton’s Bicentennial
Family fun-filled day celebrating Social Circle’s southern charm, slower pace and hospitality with arts, crafts, food, music and other activities.
Oct. 6, 2018 – Heritage Day Celebration
Get a hands-on feel of Walton County’s history at the Heritage Day Celebration at the William Harris Homestead in Campton. Participants will enjoy an array of festivities showcasing life in the 19th Century.
Oct. 20, 2018 – Autumn Fest Celebrating Walton’s Bicentennial
Enjoy fall festival activities in Loganville including arts and craft vendors, kids’ zone, food and live entertainment.
Nov. 12, 2018 – Veterans Day Tribute
Walton County will have an official dedication of the Veterans Memorial at the Government Complex and will honor our veterans.
November 2018 (date tba) – Tree Planting Ceremony
A native tree will be planted on the courthouse square and a memorial stone placed at the foot of the tree celebrating Walton County’s Bicentennial.
Dec. 15, 2018 – 200th Jubilee Celebration and Christmas Open House
Walton County will conclude the year-long Bicentennial celebration on the county’s actual founding day anniversary. Festivities will include tours of the historic courthouse, Christmas decorations, photographs, horse and buggy rides and, of course, a birthday cake large enough to serve the entire community.
