LPD Reports: Man charged with DUI after falling asleep in the Taco Bell drive-thru

The Loganville Police Department reported the following incidents for the period Jan. 19 – 31, 2019. Please note an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction.

Jan. 19, 2019

A 35-year-old Loganville man was charged with Driving while license suspended or revoked, no insurance and a suspended registration when the information came up on an officer’s license plate reader. He allegedly produced a Ga. ID card and had a suspended license out of Michigan. He was booked at LPD and released on a copy of the citation. At his request, the vehicle was left at the scene.

A 19-year-old Covington man and a 44-year-old Monroe man were charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting after they were seen on video surveillance at Walmart allegedly walking past all points of sale with items valued at $184 without paying. The tag number was taken of the vehicle they left in and both were arrested after they returned home. They were booked and transported to the Walton County Detention Center.

A 25-year-old Loganville woman was charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting after she was allegedly seen on Walmart surveillance scanning multiple items with just one swipe of the scan. She was stopped by Loss Prevention officer and police were called. She was charged with shoplifting of goods to the value of $56.58 and then released on a copy of the citation.

Jan. 20, 2019

A 23-year-old Lawrenceville man was charged with driving while license suspended or revoked and possession of marijuana less than 1 oz after he was approached by an officer for parking suspiciously with the engine running. The officer reported a smell of marijuana and a search allegedly turned up a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana and a pipe with residue. A check of his license allegedly came back suspended. He was booked at LPD and transported to Walton County Detention Center. The items found in the vehicle were taken into evidence.

A 43-year-old Monroe woman was charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting after she was allegedly seen on surveillance not scanning certain items at the self-checkout in Walmart before placing them in her bag. She was stopped by Loss Prevention and the unscanned items allegedly found to total $213. She was charged at LPD and released on a copy of the citation.

A 22-year-old Winder woman and a 23-year old Social Circle woman were charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting after they were observed allegedly stacking items on top of each other and only scanning the bottom item at the self-checkout in Walmart. When stopped they asked if they could pay the $92 for the items that were not scanned, but the request was refused by Walmart. Due to the fact that one had an infant child with her, the police officer obtained permission to charge them at the scene and release them on a copy of the citations.

Jan. 21, 2019

A 26-year-old Loganville man was charged with hit and run and following too closely after he left the scene of an accident. A witness followed him and gave the tag number. He was stopped and arrested. He had a valid drivers license and insurance and told police he didn’t know why he had run – he was just scared. He was booked and released on a copy of the charges.

Jan. 23, 2019

A 31-year-old Loganville woman and a 25-year-old Lawrenceville man were charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting after Walmart staff allegedly saw both suspects scan lower priced items and place the higher price items in the cart before leaving. The tag of the vehicle they left in came back to the parent of one and a check of the license of both the daughter and her boyfriend allegedly matched the surveillance tape. The woman turned herself in and was booked and released on a copy of her citation. Warrants were taken on the boyfriend.

Jan. 24, 2019

A 26-year-old Grayson woman was charged with possession of marijuana, less than 1 oz and failure to yield at a yield sign after she allegedly failed to stop at the yield sign at Ga. 10 and Ga. 81 Spur. During the traffic stop the officer reported the smell of marijuana and a search allegedly turned up a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. The vehicle was left in the parking lot of Hampton Place at her request and she was booked and released on a copy of the citation.

Jan. 25, 2019

A 40-year-old Lawrenceville man was charged with possession of marijuana less than 1 oz and a seatbelt violation after he was stopped for a seatbelt violation. The officer reported the smell of marijuana and allegedly found less than an oz during a probable cause search. He was booked at LPD and released on a copy of the citation.

A 54-year-old Grayson man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, following too closely and open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle after an accident. The investigating officer reported a smell of alcohol coming from the driver and allegedly located an open, half-full can of Bud Light in the center console cup holder. He allegedly tested at 0.216 and 0.204 on the Intoxiilyzer 9000 breath test and was subsequently arrested and transported to Walton County jail.

Jan. 26, 2019

A 31-year-old Loganville man was charged with DUI – driving under the influence of alcohol after officers were called to Taco Bell because of someone asleep in the drive-through. He was awake when the officer reached him and he was able to move his vehicle out the way. He allegedly failed the field sobriety test and tested at 0.163 grams on the Alco-sensor. He was subsequently booked at LPD and transported to the Walton County Detention Center.

Jan. 27, 2019

A 31-year-old Loganville man was charged with speeding in excess of maximum limits and driving while license suspended or revoked after he was allegedly clocked speeding at 53 mph in a 35 mph speed zone. He had a New York license that came back suspended. He was subsequently booked and charged at LPD and released on a copy of the citation.

A 51-year-old Loganville man was charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting after he was allegedly seen placing items in the bag at the self-checkout at Walmart without scanning them. The total value was $18. He was cited at the scene and released on a copy of the citation.

A 35-year-old Loganville woman was charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting after she was allegedly seen on camera placing items in her purse. Once she had passed through all the checkouts, she was stopped and voluntarily revealed the items in her purse, which totaled $91.71. She was booked at LPD and released on a copy of the citation.

Jan. 28, 2019

A 39-year-old Loganville woman was charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting after she allegedly left Walmart with $78 worth of items that allegedly were not paid for. The tag number of her vehicle was replayed to vehicles on patrol and she was subsequently stopped and the items were returned to Walmart. She was booked, charged and released on a copy of the citation. She was also issued a criminal trespass warning stating she was not allowed on any Walmart property per Walmart’s policy.

Jan. 30, 2019

A 52-year-old Loganville man was charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting after an employee allegedly took an old battery as an exchange from a customer and then rang up the battery as a return and took a bond new battery valued at $93.76. He was arrested and booked at LPD before being released on a copy of the citation. Video footage was taken into evidence.

A 21-year-old Loganville man was charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting after he was allegedly seen concealing Advil in his jacket pocket and wheeling a shopping cart out of the store with a box of diapers. The total value was $54. He was arrested, booked at LPD and released on a copy of the citation.

A 55-year-old Loganville man was charged with DUI- less safe – alcohol, failure to yield for an authorized emergency vehicle and driving while license suspended after Loganville officials were notified that a vehicle was headed into the city that didn’t appear to be maintaining its lane. LPD identified it, followed and after allegedly seeing the same driving pattern attempted to make a traffic stop. The driver allegedly ignored the attempts and went to his home, exited the vehicle and went into his house. Police were distracted by another vehicle, allegedly driven by the son of the subject, coming out of the driveway and headed for the police vehicle. Once it was established he was not attempting to block them, the driver of the vehicle they had followed was arrested and a breath test administered. He allegedly tested at 0.148 and 0.151. He was subsequently arrested and transported to Walton County Detention Center.

Jan. 31, 2019

A 58-year-old Loganville woman was charged with misdemeanor shoplifting after she allegedly passed some items across the Walmart self-checkout scanner without having them register. She then allegedly attempted to leave the store. She was stopped by Loss Prevention and the items that were not scanned allegedly totaled $32. She was then arrested, booked and released on a copy of the citation.
