LPD Reports: Year begins with slew of shoplifting reports from Walmart

The City of Loganville reported the following incidents for the period  Jan 1 – 14, 2019. Please note an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction.

Jan. 2, 2019

A 37-year-old Monroe man was arrested and charged with theft by shoplifting after Walmart advised LPD that he allegedly stole items before leaving in a vehicle with two women. He was stopped and questioned. Following a search of the vehicle, he was subsequently arrested and charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting of $167.31 worth of items as well as possession of schedule II controlled substance and possession and use of drug-related objects. He also had an outstanding warrant out of Walton County.

Jan. 3, 2019

A 25-year-old Loganville man was arrested and charged with driving while license suspended or revoked, a misdemeanor, and no brake light or working turn signal after he was stopped for a broken tail light.

Jan. 5, 2019

A  55-year-old Decatur man was arrested and charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting after Walmart reported that he allegedly picked up electronic items and dog food while shopping, but only paid for the dog food at the checkout. When he was taken to LPD to be fingerprinted and charged, an outstanding warrant out of Dekalb County was revealed. The subject was then transported to Walton County jail.

A 34-year-old man from Clarkston and a 27-year-old man from Lawrenceville were arrested and transported to Walton County jail after they allegedly shoplifted $66.31 worth of goods. One of the men also had a warrant out of Gwinnett County. He was taken to Walton County jail and the second man was released on a copy of the citation.

Jan. 6, 2019

A 37-year-old man Cumming was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, less safe, alcohol, driving without a valid license (misdemeanor), speeding in excess of maximum limit and failure to maintain lane after he was tagged at 65-mph in a 45-mph speed zone. After he allegedly failed the field sobriety test, his vehicle was impounded and he was transported to Walton County jail.

A 34-year-old Loganville woman was arrested and charged with DUI less safe (alcohol), misdemeanor DUI child endangerment, failure to maintain lane, suspended registration, expired registration and disorderly conduct after she was stopped with three children under 14 in the vehicle. She was allegedly observed failing to maintain lane and driving on a canceled registration. She allegedly admitted to drinking a few glasses of wine but got combative after she reportedly failed the sobriety test and was placed in handcuffs, claiming the arrest was racist. She was transported to Walton County jail and her car and children were turned over to her brother.

Jan. 7, 2019

A 20-year-old Loganville man and a 19-year-old Snellville woman were arrested and charged with shoplifting-misdemeanor after LPD was called to Walmart regarding alleged shoplifting. The two were seen allegedly scanning lower priced items on the self-checkout and placing higher priced items in bags. A total of $146.74 worth of items were short paid or not paid for. Once stopped and turned over to police, a warrant came back for aggravated assault and armed robbery out of Chatham County for the Loganville man. Both were arrested and transported to the Walton County jail.

Jan. 8, 2019

A 65-year-old Loganville woman was arrested and charged with theft by shoplifting-misdemeanor, after it was alleged that she had taken about $163.83 worth of items from Walmart without paying for them over a course of several days. Video and photographic evidence was produced and she was arrested, processed at LPD and released on a copy of the citation.

Jan. 9, 2019

A 22-year-old Atlanta man and a 21-year-old Stone Mountain woman were charged with disorderly conduct after the vehicle they were passengers in was stopped for allegedly speeding at 65-mph in a 45 mph. They allegedly gave false names to the officer and when the correct names were eventually obtained, both had outstanding warrants. They were subsequently arrested and transported to Walton County jail.

Jan. 11, 2019

A 31-year-old Loganville woman was charged with theft by shoplifting after she was allegedly seen scanning items on the self-checkout at Walmart, but blocking the code with her hands as she did so.

She was arrested and charged with misdemeanor shoplifting of items totally $68.68 and released from LPD on a copy of the citation.

A 26-year-old Loganville man was charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting after he was allegedly observed not scanning some of the items through the self check-out at Walmart. He was arrested and charged with shoplifting of $284 worth of goods. He was then released on a copy of the citation.

An 18-year-old Grayson woman was charged with theft by shoplifting-misdemeanor after she was allegedly observed not scanning all the items on the self-checkout at Walmart. She was arrested and charged with shoplifting of $144.45 worth of goods before being released on a copy of the citation.

A 42-year-old Grayson woman was charged with theft by shoplifting-misdemeanor after she was allegedly seen scanning two items at a lower price than they were marked at the self-checkout at Walmart. The two items, a blender and a toaster, with a total cost difference for both of $178.00. She was arrested, charged and released on a copy of her citation.

Jan. 12, 2019

A 44-year-old Stone Mountain man was charged with identity theft fraud to create/use/possess and forgery in the 3rd degree after he allegedly tried to withdraw money from another person’s account using a fraudulent driver’s license. The police were called because the account had an “alert” on it. The man was arrested when he tried to leave the bank after giving a copy of a driver’s license with the correct name, but not his photograph on the license. He was arrested and transported to the Walton County jail.

A 53-year-old Loganville woman was arrested and charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting after she was allegedly observed not scanning all the items before placing them into a bag and attempting to leave Walmart. She was arrested and booked at LPD before being released on a copy of the citation.

Jan. 13, 2019

An 18-year-old Monroe man was arrested and charged with misdemeanor driving on a suspended or revoked license after he was stopped for having no tag lights. A check of his license came back suspended.

He was transported to the Loganville Police Department, booked and released on a copy of the citation. A small amount suspected marijuana was found in his top pocket but was not enough to take into evidence.

A 40-year-old Loganville woman was arrested and charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting after she was seen allegedly not scanning all the items at the self-checkout at Walmart. The items missed totaled $135.46. She was booked at LPD and released to EMS on a copy of the citation after she told officers that she was hypoglycemic and did not have her medication with her.

Jan. 14, 2019

A 40-year-old Loganville man was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and drugs, not in the original container – misdemeanor, after the vehicle was stopped after a report by the driver’s brother that the vehicle was his and had not been returned by his brother. The driver allegedly said he took the vehicle because he did not believe his brother would have allowed him to do so. The owner of the car told police he was concerned that his brother would take it to get drugs and wanted a search conducted. The search allegedly turned up pills, not in the original container with no prescription. The car was turned over to the owner and the subject was transported to Walton County jail.
