After trouncing North Hall 42-7 at home in the first round of the 2017 Georgia High School Football playoffs last week, the Monroe Area High School football Hurricanes is hoping to continue the winning trend as it takes on the Calhoun Yellowjackets Friday. Both teams enter the matchup up 10-1, with unranked Monroe considered the underdogs. Calhoun has made it through to the quarterfinals for the last 10 consecutive years, according to Maxpreps.com. Monroe is hoping to break that record. Calhoun beat Pace Academy 27-3 in the first round and will be taking on the Hurricanes in Calhoun. Last year it was Calhoun that ended the Cane’s championship dreams by beating them 42-0 in the first round.
