Monroe Minority Business Association hosts the inaugural Black History Gala Feb. 29

In keeping with the traditions of Black History Month, the Monroe Minority Business Association is hosting the first Annual Black History Gala from 4 – 6 p.m. next Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020, at the Young Levett Chapel at 129 W. Washington Street.

“Come dress in your best formal attire for an evening of memories and gratitude for those that have touched the lives of many in our community,” the invite reads. “All those that attend will receive a souvenir gift. We look forward to seeing you at this event.”

This is a black-tie formal event and will honor some of the people who had a strong influence in the local community and paved the way for future generations. Included in some of those to be celebrated are Molly Lewis, Ola Hill, Patricia Roberts as well as the late Grady Akridge, Rev. B.Z. Daniels, Michael Etchison and Jerry Smith. Also included for honorable mention are current track and field stars and former Monroe Area High School alumni Demek Kemp and Javianne Oliver.
