Monroe PD Reports: Check theft and fraud and domestic disputes dominate

The Monroe Police Department reported the following incidents for the period Feb. 22 – March 1, 2018. Due to the length, this report has been split into five parts. This is the final part. Please note an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction.

  • Traffic Stop, East Marable for no tag lights and tinted windows. Markquan Kelly was arrested for driving without a valid license and no insurance as well as several traffic charges. Transported and turned over to Walton County Sheriff’s Office.
  • Fight, King St., Witnesses advised that two females were fighting about a dispute which occurred earlier in the day. One female was cited for Disorderly Conduct and released on copy of citation.
  • Dispute, Maple Lane, complainant stated her ex-boyfriend took her house key. Complainant forfeited residency after removing her property from the residence. Civil remedies for both parties advised.
  • Suspicious Vehicle, Hwy 138/West Spring St., Anonymous complainant stated a dark colored van was failing to maintain lane, conducted area check with negative contact.
  • Meet with officer at the Police Department. Met with complainant who requested officers stand by so she could drop her grandkids off at her son’s house. All ok.
  • Discharging Firearm Maple Lane, Anonymous complainant stated they heard five rapid shots in the area. Conducted area check with negative contact.
  • Unknown Law Maple Lane. Female caller stated a male subject put his hands on her and disconnected. Contact was made with said male and two females, parties were separated, and every person denied calling police. Parties advised everything was ok.
  • Theft Report Maple St., Complainant flagged down Officer stating his Smith and Wesson was stolen from his book bag sometime last date. No serial number or model at this time. Report taken
  • Dispute Green Street in reference to female being involved in a fight with a “T ” Subject. Female was intoxicated and did not wish to speak to the police. The incident was documented.
  • Found Property Douglas St., Complainant stated he located a book bag on his property after a suspicious male subject was sitting on his porch. Inside the bag were numerous miscellaneous items, a boss audio car stereo, and a Walmart ID. The stereo was from an earlier entering auto. The bag was secured into evidence, supplemental report added.
  • Meet with Officer, Breedlove Drive in reference complainant calling because his wife is at Ridgeview and they will not release her. I made contact with employees on location at Ridgeview and they advised wife was under a signed 10-13 (7-day evaluation). Complainant was advised of the evaluation.
  • Warrant Served, Cherokee Ave., reference to Amanda Cooper. Officer observed Amanda Cooper on the porch of the residence and had knowledge that she had an active warrant for Forgery. Cooper was arrested and taken to MPD for fingerprinting.  She was then transported to Walton County Jail. Supplemental added.
  • Animal Complaint at Reed Way. Complainant advising a dark colored pit bull was in her backyard and looked sick. Canine was gone when area was checked with negative contact.
  • Suspicious Vehicle Heritage Ridge Court – Made contact with male subject who was parked in the cul de sac making a phone call.  Male advised he does not like talking and driving.  Everything okay on location.
  • Assault at Old Mill Point. Contact made with complainant who stated Samuel Johnson punched her in the face last date around 1800 hours and then would not leave the residence. Johnson was arrested for Battery Family Violence, Cruelty to Children 3rd Degree x2, and transported to the Walton County Jail.
  • Follow Up, West Spring Street at Connell Printing in reference to additional information to an open case. Evidence for first case number was collected. Owners also advised they discovered that named subject had been writing unauthorized Connell Printing checks to her landlord. Landlord handed over copies of the checks. Additional warrants to be taken for forgery and elder abuse.
  • Area Check Carver Place in reference to a female subject walking in the area with warrants for her arrest.  Officer checked the area and had no contact with the described female. Officer also attempted to make contact with the complainant, but Carver Place is not a valid address.
  • Shoplifting 2050 West Spring Street at Walmart – subject caught shoplifting $31 worth of lotion.  Management did not wish to prosecute.  Subject given a trespass warning to stay away from Walmart.
  • Illegal Dumping Plaza Trace at Country Grove Apartments in reference to a B/M dumping items on the side of the road. Male was in a truck. All okay, the male was cleaning an apartment out at Country Grove.
  • Meet with Officer at MPD in reference to a mental subject. Mother wanted to inform the police department about her son. She stated he is schizophrenic and an incident occurred this past Saturday at Los Three Amigos. She advised her son started taking pictures at the restaurant and a group of white male’s tried to jump him as they were leaving. She did not want a report and just wanted police aware of his condition. She stated they live in the county near Social Circle but often times visit Monroe. She stated she has power of attorney over him.
  • Warrant Service MPD in reference to subject in lobby wanting to turn them self in on a county warrant. Kevon Harris was placed under arrest and transported to the Walton County Jail. Kevon had an failure to appear warrant through WCSO.
  • Theft Report Harris Street – Complainant advised she suspects a male subject took $200 from her purse while he was inside her residence using the restroom.  Report taken.
  • Theft Report MPD Lobby. Complainant wanted to make a report of an iPad Kiss Scope that was ordered and was delivered to the wrong address by UPS back in December 2017. He advised a report has already been made with UPS and TL Connect. He advised TL Connect requested a police report.
  • Transport MPD. CID requested transport of Terry Barnette to Walton County Jail.
  • Dispute at Maple Street in reference subjects verbally disputing over food. Situation mediated.
  • Found Property East Church Street in reference to a bike. Complainant stated he found a child’s bicycle abandoned in his front yard. The bike was a teal Schwinn Starlet bike. Bike was running through GCIC and did not come back stolen. The bike was left on location.
  • Assault South Broad Street – Old Historic Courthouse in reference to a county employee assaulted last Friday by his boyfriend. Employee denied pressing charges. Incident took place at the Recreation Complex on South Madison Avenue. Incident documented for county staff.
  • Dispute Davis Street in reference to a subject on location, now GOA towards Pine Park Street. Contact made with Complainant stating subjects were refusing to leave her property. Complainant advised to contact the police again if subjects returned.
  • Theft at MPD Lobby. Complainant stated on Saturday the 24th of February he left his phone in the bathroom in the Monroe Walmart but was gone when he went back to retrieve it. Report taken, advised to also contact Walmart to see if someone turned it in.
  • Traffic Stop, Alcovy Street at Alcovy Grocery – Subject stopped for traffic violation.  Subjects fiancé, Felicia Finley was found to be in possession of marijuana less than 1 ounce.  Mrs. Finley was cited and released on copy of city ordinance citation.
  • Violent Dispute Harris Street in reference to a male on location with a gun. Subject was gone when officers arrived. Officers were advised that subject laid a brown hand gun on the ground and told the persons on location that he didn’t owe anyone money. Male took off on foot when the police were called.
  • DOA at West Spring Street in reference to complainant finding male deceased. The scene was turned over to CID and the Walton County Coroner.
  • Shoplifting 2050 West Spring Street – Walmart – Shaconda Gibbs was charged with shoplifting.  Released on citation.
  • Vicious Animal Overlook Trail, reference to two dogs attacking complainant’s dogs. No contact with animals. Animal Control responded.
  • Burglary Victory Drive in reference to open rear window entered and multiple items taken while resident and family out of town.
  • Custody Issue Rosewood Lane in reference to mother wanting to know why her children did not come home from father’s house. Father had children call mother, but her phone was off. Spoke to mother and told her to try and call again.
  • Domestic, East Spring Street #106 in reference to physical argument leaving injury to her neck. Warrants will be taken for Battery FV.
  • Suspicious Persons at Nowell Street – Subjects were on location to check on the residence with permission.
  • Juvenile Complaint at East Marable Street in reference to mother and child arguing over child taking a shower too late and being disrespectful. Situation mediated, parties advised of remedies.
  • Traffic Stop Lacy Street / Harris Street in reference to John Boyd in reference to having probation warrants out of Gwinnett County. Driver was confirmed to by Boyd and detained.  Turned over to WCSO.
  • Suspicious Activity, North Broad Street – Sailor Studio in reference to the front door of the business being unlocked, business cleared, door secured by key holder.
  • Suspicious Activity, North Broad Street – The Wayfarer Music Hall, in reference to the right side front door being unsecured, business cleared, and door closed. Attempt made to contact the key holder with negative results.
  • EMS Assist Baker Street in reference to assisting EMS on making entry.  Homeowner answered the door prior to arrival and everything was ok on location.
  • Found Property at Union Street in reference to a purple Huffy bicycle. The serial number was ran and did not return stolen. The bicycle was left on location in case the owner returned.
  • Domestic Dispute at Booth Drive in reference to a dispute between subjects. Report taken.
  • Lost/Mislaid Property Monroe Police Department – Complainant advised sometime between 01-01-18 and todays date, she lost/misplaced a Georgia license plate that was registered to her Jon Boat.
  • Dispute at Booth Drive in reference to female back on location to retrieve her property. She retrieved her property. All okay.
  • Damage to Property, West Spring Street –  Management advised female and her unknown boyfriend damaged the TV in the room they rented over the weekend.
  • Fight at Maple Place Townhomes in reference to a white female and a black female in a physical altercation. Officer had negative contact.
  • Suspicious Vehicle West Spring Street to East Church Street in reference to UHAUL truck driving reckless. Vehicle was GOA to the county prior to officer arrival.
  • Child Custody Dispute MPD Lobby. Complainant wanted documentation for the courts in reference to her child’s father taking her son to New York when she was locked up for FV back in August 2017. She advised she is trying to get her son back since the father does not have legal rights.
  • Dispute at Perry Street. Complainant stating her neighbor was talking about her and caused a verbal dispute. Neighbor advised she was having a discussion with her daughter and complainant just wanted to cause problems. Parties were separated.
  • Juvenile Complaint at MPD in reference to an unruly juvenile. The complainant was advised of remedies.
  • Stranded Motorist North Broad Street at Hwy 78 in reference to an 18-wheeler blocking roadway. Vehicle was located on Hwy 11 exit ramp from Hwy 78 WB. Traffic was cleared, and vehicle was towed by Taylors.
