Monroe PD Reports: Fired employee suspected of piling grease on grill and turning it on overnight

The Monroe Police Department reported the following incidents for the period Feb. 15 – 22, 2018. Due to the length of this report, it has been split into four parts. This is the first part. Please note an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction.

  • Juvenile Problem at Deer Acres Inn, reference to female refusing to go to school.  Officer contacted female who agreed to go to school. All ok.
  • Meet with Officer at MPD, reference to subject wanting a ride to Clearview Regional Medical Center. Met with male subject whom stated he has mental health issues and has been off his medicine for the past three days. He advised his medication was stolen which he had filed a report with Walton County Sheriff’s Office. Subject was given a ride to Clearview.
  • Traffic Stop, Officer ran tag through GCIC.  An alert for the registered owner having an active warrant came back. Officer was able to observe the registered owner, Cristopher Byrd, was driving the vehicle. Officer conducted a traffic stop on vehicle and took Mr. Byrd into custody for the warrant out of WCSO.
  • Domestic Dispute, West Tall Oaks, reference to the complainant wanting named male subject to leave the residence. Complainant came home from work this morning and found that her grandmother allowed male subject into the residence. Complainant wanted subject to leave since he does not reside at the residence. Subject retrieved some of his property and left. He was also served with a criminal trespass.
  • Meet with Officer, West Spring St., Clearview, reference to patient on location not satisfied with service. Made contact with subject whom stated that the staff at Clearview was refusing to help him. A nurse advised that Subject has a habit of “Hospital Shopping” and was refusing the medication that they offered him. Subject was refused a ride to another hospital and was told he would need to find his own ride. He decided to stay on location and accept Clearview’s treatment plan.
  • Follow Up, Felker St., reference to a harassing communications report. Made contact with complainant in reference to a case. Complainant advised that male subject made contact with her again after he was told by her and her husband to stop contacting them. CID was notified. Warrant To Be Taken for harassing communications.
  • Suspicious Vehicle, East Church St., Baron Dr., reference to a semi traveling on East Church Street. Officer made contact with the semi and gave the driver a warning.
  • Meet Officer, Monroe Motor Inn, reference to complainant needing assistance with getting items left in a room.  Officer spoke with staff on location who gave the purse back.
  • Domestic, West Creek Circle, reference to two subjects disputing. Report taken.
  • Dispute, Meadow Walk Dr., mother flagged down officer due to her verbally disputing with her son and wanting him to leave. The son came to visit his girlfriend who is pregnant and was complaining of pain of possible contractions. Girlfriend and son transported to Clearview by EMS. Mother advised of the eviction process. Parties separated.
  • Runaway, MPD, Officer met with mother who stated her daughter left the residence around 0500 hours.  She advised that school was closed this date and she does not know where she is.  She wanted to make a miscellaneous report for the time being and was going to continue looking for her.  She did not want her daughter put in GCIC as a runaway at this time.  Report taken.
  • Suspicious Person, East Marable St. and Gratis Rd., A passerby flagged down Officer and stated an unknown, dark skinned male was walking down Gratis Road flapping his arms in the middle of the street. WCSO was advised and contacted the subject.
  • Follow Up at MPD. Officer met with mother from above runaway report who located her daughter on Walton Road. Officer spoke with daughter and gave information to the mother about juvenile court. Information will be added to original report.
  • Hit and Run, MPD, Officer was approached by complainant in the rear parking lot advising she was just involved in a hit and run approximately 5 minutes prior at West Spring Street and Wayne Street. Complainant advised she attempted to follow the vehicle to obtain the tag number of the vehicle. After further investigation it was determined the complainant was following the wrong vehicle. Report taken.
  • Assault, Clearview in Room, reference to an assault that occurred last date on West Spring Street by the Library. Met with nursing staff who advised that the mother had been assaulted by her daughter. Spoke to the mother. She stated that on the previous date her daughter bit her left arm and choked her. Warrant taken for the daughter.
  • Suspicious Person, MPD. Officer was approached by complainant whom stated that a dirty white male was lingering around Walton Street behind Monroe Utilities. She was concerned for his wellbeing and requested a welfare check be done on the male. Officer made contact with male sitting on Wayne Street. Male advised he had been staying at Deer Acres Inn and needed to go to the bank. Male stated he was okay and advised he did not need medical attention. 
  • Suspicious vehicle, Highway 138 at West Spring St., reference to a vehicle driving recklessly in the area. Negative contact.
  • Traffic Stop, Lacorion Atkinson was stopped for a traffic violation. A probable cause search was conducted on his vehicle and he was found to be in possession of marijuana less than 1 ounce. Mr. Atkinson was cited and released on copy of a city ordinance citation.
  • Damage to Property, North Wayne St. – Gwinnett Quality Appliance. Advised someone struck her vehicle in the Walmart parking lot last date
  • Dispute, Perry St., Civil dispute between mother and son over mother not allowing her 16-year-old son to use her cell phone to watch YouTube. Situation mediated.
  • Juvenile Complaint, Store House Court. Contact made with parents stating their 6-year-old daughter was getting bullied by their neighbor’s niece and 9-year-old nephew. Contact made with nephew who apologized to their daughter but could not get in contact with his Aunt or sister. Parents advised to contact the school for disciplinary action.
  • Suspicious Person, West Vine St., Universal Rundle. While conducting an area check, officer heard a person inside the building. When units cleared the building, a white male wearing black tank top, red shorts, and boots was observed inside. Male took off running then jumped on the roof. A perimeter was set up around the building. MFD responded and officers cleared the roof. Negative contact with the male.
  • Dispute, West Spring St., Clearview Hospital, reference to female subject disputing with DFACS worker and Clearview staff. Situation was mediated, subject was transported from Clearview to the DFACS office without incident. 
  • Welfare Check, West Spring St., Quality Foods, reference to the complainant stating a male subject was pushing a juvenile with the shopping cart. The officer made contact with father and his two children. Everything on location ok.
  • Domestic, Maple St., son was disputing with his mother over money.  Parties separated.
  • Traffic Stop, Plaza Dr. and Arnold Point, reference to stopping a Silver in color Chevy truck with a headlight violation, the driver Tommy Lee Presley was arrested for diving on a suspended license and was charged with disorderly conduct due to giving a false name and date of birth. At first contact with the driver Tommy Presley, he advised he did not have his license on his person and gave his brother information which returned with a warrant, once Tommy Presley was placed under arrest for the warrant he provided his correct name and date of birth. Tommy Lee Presley was transported to the City of Monroe Police Department, fingerprinted then transported to the Walton County Jail and turned over to the jail staff without incident.
  • Theft, South Broad St., CVS Pharmacy – female subject was picked by an individual to help cash checks in the Monroe area.  The individual took off with female subject purse and ZTE cell phone.
  • Discharging Firearms, Cherokee Ave., complainant stated an unknown black male attempted to rob him at his residence. Complainant advised the black male approached his back door and he chased the subject to his vehicle, parked in the driveway, and grabbed onto the door as the driver wrecked in the ditch in the front yard and complainant fired several shots at the subject and another unknown black male who attempted to get into the vehicle, but fled on foot towards East Church Street. The driver was described as a black male with short dreads wearing all black. The vehicle is an older model 90’s silver Honda Accord.
  • Disturbing the Peace, Wheel House Lane, reference to a group of kids being loud.  Located the group and asked them to watch the yelling and scream. 
  • Domestic, Meadowbrook Dr., husband punched his wife, bit the thumb of another subject and pushed another subject.  He fled the scene prior to officer’s arrival.
  • 911 Hang Up, area of Wheel House Lane, reference to a female caller stating she needed help, the call came from a 911 only phone and was pin mapped to this location, area check conducted with negative contact.
  • Dispute at the Corner of Davis Street and Harris Street, reference to group of people having a lager get together on Harris Street and people arguing in the yard. Female subject was on location and had been drinking, she was causing a disturbance in the area and was advised to go home. Everything ok on location.
  • Suspicious Vehicle, West Spring St., Taco Bell, reference to a green in color Honda sitting in the parking lot after hours, made contact with the driver he advised he was just using the WIFI. Driver advised he would be heading home, everything on location ok.
  • Dispute, West Spring St., Clearview Medical Center, reference to patient being on scene disputing with staff and not wanting to leave the facility after being discharged, situation mediated. Patient was picked by her mother, everything on location ok.
  • Suspicious Person, West Spring St., Huddle House, reference to a gentleman wanting a ride to the Walton Inn. Gave him a lift.
  • Suicide Attempt, South Madison Ave., subject took an unknown quantity if pills.  He was transported to Clearview by EMS.
  • EMS Assist, Towler St., reference to a black male having a seizure and could not answer the door.  Neighbors heard him yelling for help and called. MFD breached the door to make entry. Patient was having an active seizure and was turned over to Walton EMS.
  • Suspicious vehicle in the area of Ford St., reference to a black in color Honda pulling up in front of the residence and a female jumping out and running inside. Made contact with the vehicle and the occupants, everything on location ok. 
  • Suspicious Person, Lacy St., reference to the complainant hearing someone knock on her front door, she wanted an officer to check and make sure her vehicles had not been broken into. Vehicles were checked, and an area check conducted, everything on location ok.
  • Welfare Check at Walton Truck Stop, male subject on location standing outside the store.  Management was concerned about his wellbeing. Officer made contact with subject and attempted to give him a ride to Loganville to get him closer to home. He did not wish for a ride at this time.
  • Follow Up at Walton Truck Stop in reference to male subject from above was on location making customers nervous. Management requested he leave the property. Subject was told by officers to leave and if he returns he would be charged.
  • Shoplifting, West Spring St., Walmart.  Lost prevention had Anthony Crumsby detained.  Mr. Crumsby passed the point of sale without paying for $148.51 worth of merchandise.  Mr. Crumsby taken into custody. Fingerprinted and released on citations.
  • Fire Assist, Sorrells St., Fire responding to a large fire set to some trash that resident had by his curb to be picked up. CID contacted due to signs of arson. 
  • Shoplifting, West Spring St., Walmart. Christinia Phillips was arrest for shoplifting $69.15 worth of merchandise. She was transported to MPD for fingerprinting and released on copy.
  • Damage to Property, Athens Grill, reference to terminated employee suspected of putting piled up grease on the grill and leaving it turned on overnight. The store owner requested the incident be documented.  He advised he’s changed all the locks on his doors and he request extra patrol during the night time hours. CID was notified.
  • Follow Up, Ash St. and Magnolia St. reference to a previous hit and run report. Complainant located a Honda Accord and thought it may be the Honda that struck her vehicle. Officer observed the Honda and the damage did not coincide.
  • Dispute, Chestnut Lane, reference to complainant wanting subject to leave. Subject was gone when officers arrived.
  • Suspicious Vehicle, Creek View Dr., reference to a small red passenger car speeding and reckless in the area. Officer observed a red 4-door Toyota driving through the neighborhood. No violations were observed. No other vehicles matching the description were observed in the area.
