MPD Reports: Woman asleep in vehicle awoke to find man in driver’s seat

The City of Monroe Police Department reported the following incidents for the period May 14 – 21, 2020. Due to the length, this report has been split into five parts. This is the fourth part. Please note an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction.

  • Dispute – E. Marable S. in reference to subject pushed complainant. The complainant did not wish to press charges against the subject. Since it was not a domestic violence incident there was no arrest made. 
  • Road Hazard – HWY 78 at HWY N. Broad St. in reference to glass in the roadway. The Fire Department cleaned the glass out of the roadway.
  • Assault – Piedmont Hospital – Complainant stated that she was assaulted at Green St. early today at 1100 hours. Report taken and remedies given.
  • Shoplifting – Walmart; Meredith Ethridge was charged with shoplifting and criminal trespass. She was released on a copy of summons from the PD.
  • Harassment – Tall Oaks E. – Complainant stated she received harassing messages from her father, remedies advised.
  • Stolen Vehicle – Wheel House Ln. While conducting an area check a stolen ATV was located and returned to the owner, supplement added.
  • Stolen Vehicle – Wheel House Ln. After leaving the scene an unknown black male returned the stolen dirt bike, which was stolen with the ATV.
  • Firearms – Evergreen Estates / Michael Etchison. The caller said they heard possible gunshots in the area. Area searched. Negative contact.
  • Suspicious Person -Walton St. In reference to the subject looking for a trash can. He was advised to stay off private property and sent on his way.
  • Traffic Violation – S. Broad / Dollar General. In reference to a white VW Passat traveling with a non-functioning Headlight. Probable cause search conducted. After further investigation, the subject arrested for possession of schedule I, schedule II, Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
  • Dispute – Green St. area. An anonymous complainant stated they heard a dispute in the area, but were unable to provide an address. Area was searched with negative contact.
  • Fraud – Magnolia St. Complainant advised that he met some girl online yesterday via social media/dating site and they mutually sent pictures to each other. The complainant stated that the other party was requesting $700 and if not then she was going to post the pictures online. Comp of civil remedies, including blocking all contact with the female that he just met online. No report taken.
  • Juvenile complaint – Alcovy St. In reference to Juvenile being unruly. The juvenile wanted to know her rights and she was advised of them. The mother was advised of remedies. All ok.
  • Theft report – N. Broad St., Southern Roots. An employee had wallet stolen and card used at Dollar General shortly thereafter.
  • Dispute – E. Marable St. Subject and her boyfriend in the middle of a break-up. Male made threats to parties in the home. Report taken
  • Other law – E. Church St., Chestnut Cupboard. The subject wanted a ride for her mother to the Dr. Advised of remedies by phone.
  • Dispute – Chestnut Ln. EMS was on scene for a general weakness call and advised of a dispute in progress. The Female did not want to go to the hospital and her daughter wanted the police to force her. Advised daughter of remedies.
  • Dispute – Amber Trl. In reference to the complainant advising his neighbors’ dog attacked his dog. Complainant advised of the civil process and to contact animal control the next date. Complainant believes this will be an ongoing issue. Report taken.
  • Burglary Report – Booth Dr; Complainant advised while she was not at home someone had broken into her residence and ransacked it. The complainant advised that she does not notice anything missing yet. Report taken.
  • Domestic – Creek View Ct – Caller is elderly and has dementia. No current issue at the residence. Caller’s daughter arrived on the scene and the situation was mediated.
  • Threats – Cherry Hill Rd & Birch St. Complainant advised his ex-girlfriend is posting/sending harassing things about him through Facebook. The complainant also advised she posted a photo of him without his permission. Report taken
  • Suspicious Person – 6th St. – Complainant advised 4-5 Black males walking on 6th St. possibly looking into vehicles. No contact was made with the subjects.
  • Domestic Dispute – S Broad St; – In reference to a verbal dispute between husband and wife at the location. The situation was mediated and both parties were advised of available remedies. Report taken.
  • Entering Auto – S. Madison Ave. The complainant stated that she was sleeping in the back seat of her vehicle when she heard a noise. When she woke up a black male was in her drivers’ seat. The subject took her keys and ran away from the scene. A second vehicle was also entered on the premises.
  • Suspicious Person – S. Broad St. & Atha St. In reference to (2) 15 YOA juveniles on bicycles. Juveniles were turned over to their mother. All ok.
  • EMS Assist – Lacy St. – In reference to the subject advising she needed an ambulance. Per MED1, law enforcement needed to be on scene due to previous incidences of violence by the caller toward EMS personnel. All was OK. EMS transported the subject to Piedmont Walton.
  • Stolen Vehicle – Tall Oaks W. – Complainant advised that he left the vehicle running and unlocked in his driveway and an unknown subject took the vehicle. The vehicle was placed on NCIC as stolen. Report taken.
