MPD Reports: Gun, knife, cash taken from vehicles, suicide attempt and slew of domestic disputes

The City of Monroe Police Department reported the following incidents for the period Dec. 21 – 27, 2018. Due to the length, this report has been split into four parts. This is the third part. Please note an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction.

  • Assault, West Spring St., WalMart, LP flag down, reference to a Jonathon Bryant pulling a knife after stealing $1,617.00 worth of merchandise. After a short foot chase and struggle, the suspect was apprehended. Bryant was charged with theft by shoplifting (felony), simple battery, aggravated assault, and obstructing without violence.
  • Fraud, West Spring St., the complainant advised someone purchased an ATT I-phone in her name at an unknown Walmart location. Report taken.
  • Hit & Run, West Spring St., Female was involved in a private property accident. She left the scene and drove home to Meadowalk Subdivision while the other vehicle was still on the property. It was explained to her that she cannot leave the scene of an accident, she became mad, got in her car, and refused a report.
  • Harassing Text, Towler St., met with the complainant. She stated she has an ongoing issue with her ex-girlfriend and wanted to know how to deal with her. She was explained the civil process of taking out a Temporary Protection Order.
  • Meet with Officer, Saint Ives Walk, complainant called because he believed someone was inside his residence. The building was cleared all ok.
  • Suspicious Vehicle, Hwy 78/City Limits, Anonymous complainant stated a vehicle was driving erratically. Contact made with Rosalyn Chapman, she was arrested for DUI-Less safe.
  • Suspicious Vehicle, Hwy 78 East, reference to an anonymous complainant observing a dark in color truck driving recklessly. Negative contact.
  • EMS Assist, Walton St., Male on location not breathing and unconscious. Turned over and transported by EMS. The male subject was pronounced dead by Piedmont Staff after treatment at the hospital.
  • Vehicle Accident, West Marable St.t/Nowell Way, Two vehicles, injury by the complaint. Johnny Smith arrested for failing to maintain lane, and DUI-Refusal. Report taken
  • Suspicious Person, Kings Ridge, reference to female subject knocking on male subject’s door saying she was in an argument with her boyfriend and was a patient at Ridgeview. She was given a ride back to Ridgeview by the officer.
  • Juvenile Complainant, Bridgeport Place, reference to complaint getting upset because her parents wouldn’t let her use their vehicles to go see her boyfriend. Report taken.
  • Missing Person, Piedmont Walton, reference to female patient escaping Ridgeview twice it was determined that the medical form she was being held on was invalid and she was transported home to Athens. Report taken.
  • Assault, Piedmont Walton, complainant stated she was assaulted on Maple St. Complainant was under the influence and was unable to provide much information. Report was taken attempted to make contact with someone on Maple St but was unable to get anyone to the door.
  • Meet with Officer, Garden Court, reference to checking a tag for family members of a deceases subject.  Tag came back suspended.  Family members were given advice on how to fix the issue.  All ok.
  • 911 Hang Up, Nowell St., dispatch was unable to make contact on a call back.  They were unable to provide an apartment number.  All appeared ok.
  • Dispute, Norris St., reference to male and female subject disputing. Parties separated report taken.
  • Domestic Dispute, East Church St., complainant stated female and him were in an altercation at this location. She grabbed his keys out of his vehicle.
  • Suicide Attempt, South Broad St., Third party advised subject attempting suicide in CVS parking lot. Made contact with the subject (07/09/1994) who was taking multiple Coricidin pills in her vehicle. The subject was transported Piedmont Walton by EMS for further. Report taken.
  • Wanted Person, South Madison Ave./Knight St., Scotty Arnold was observed walking down the road. The Officer got out with Arnold knowing he was wanted. Arnold was taken into custody and fingerprinted at the Monroe Police Dept. He was then transported to Walton County Sheriff’s Office without incident.
  • Transport, West Spring St., Piedmont Walton, reference to a subject wanting a ride to Advantage. The subject was transported without incident. Everything ok..
  • Traffic Stop, East Church/Midland Ave. A black Toyota Camry bearing tag # was stopped due to the driver not wearing a seatbelt. Once contact was made the Officer smelled the odor of raw marijuana. After identifying the driver,  a small quantity of marijuana was located inside of his jacket pocket. The driver was cited for Marijuana less than one ounce, seatbelt, and not having his license on person.
  • Dispute, Birch St., civil dispute between two male subjects, reference to a tv and a tv stand. The property was returned to one subject.
  • Flag Down, Felker Park, Walton County Government employee flagged the Officer down and advised 2 vehicles were driving erratically in the park. Officers made contact with the occupants of the vehicles and advised them of the dangers of their behavior.
  • Damage to Property, E Marable St., reference to a damaged mailbox. The complainant advised on 12/24/18 from the hours of 1810-1910 an unknown subject struck his mailbox. A part from the vehicle snapped off and was left in the yard. Report Taken
  • Dispute, Perry St., reference to a male subject and 14-year-old male subject. Subject advised juvenile was going to pull a gun on him but no gun was visible. A dispute earlier in the day took place and juvenile advised subject pulled a knife on him. There were conflicting stories and no witnesses.
  • Dispute, Alcovy St., reference to complainant disputing with her mother over a SSI check. The complainant was advised of remedies.
  • Suspicious Person, Walton Rd., a male subject was found intoxicated, leaving the garage of this property.  He was issued a criminal trespass warning.
  • Suspicious Vehicle, Bridgeport Place, reference to loud 4-wheeler in the area. Made contact with a group of teens on Bridgeport Ln where 4-wheeler was parked. All teens were advised about the noise. all ok.
  • Burglary in progress, Booth Dr., forced entry by two black males. The complainant stated nothing appeared to be missing.  Report taken.
  • Dispute, Landers St., reference to complainant saying named male subject took items of hers from the house during the eviction process. Report taken.
  • Suspicious Person, East Church St., Black male pushing a shopping cart in the roadway.  Area searched, Negative contact.
  • Prowler, Heritage Ridge Court, made contact with the complainant who stated a male kept coming to her home. Located male subject and advised him to stay away from the complainant’s residence.
  • Suspicious Vehicle, Felker Park, reference to two male subjects meeting women in the park. Advised park was closed and left.
  • Suspicious Persons, Oakwood Ln., met with a complainant in reference to two males wearing black walking down the street. Negative contact with the males. All ok.
  • Agency assist at Highway 78 Westbound and Cherry Hill. ACCPD advised of a stolen vehicle with GPS tracker in that area. Traffic stop with wreaker at 78 and Cherry Hill. Repo company with paperwork in order, all ok.
  • Prisoner transport at Newton County Jail. Jasmine Atkin transported to the Walton County Jail without incident.
  • Entering Auto, Country Club Dr., Officer made contact with the owner of the vehicle. The driver’s side door of the vehicle was locked and the passenger’s side door was unlocked. A Buck knife was taken from the center console. A report and pictures were taken.
  • Dispute, Wall St., Officer made contact with the complainant who said his brother-in-law was trying to kick him out of the house. Brother-in-law stated if the complainant could act right and the two of them could get along then complainant was more than welcome to continue staying at the house.
  • Entering Auto, South Broad St., MPD, complainant stated that someone had broken into his truck some time on Stone Creek Lane. Nothing was taken and no damage to the vehicle. A report was denied.
  • Juvenile Complaint, Spruce Lane, reference to a juvenile being disrespectful to his mother. The situation was mediated, everything on location ok.
  • Entering Auto, South Broad St., MPD, the complainant advised her vehicle (2013 Kia Optima) was entered last date between 1900 and 0700 hours. She resides on Stone Creek Court. She advised a 38 revolver and 7 to 9 dollars in cash was taken. No serial number available.
  • Dispute, South Broad St., Trading Place Pawn, reference to a dispute between a female customer and the owner of Trading Place, over a payment issue. The customer was advised to leave the property and that her husband or another relative could come back and resolve the issue.
  • Damage to Property/Traffic Stop, E Church St., a Semi attempted to take the turn from South Madison Ave. to East Church St. and struck a mailbox at the address. Officer stopped and cited the driver for striking the fixed object. Officer attempted to make contact at the business and had no contact. Voicemail was left with business.
  • Dispute, South Broad St., Petal’s PCH in reference to a dispute between caretaker and resident over phone usage. The situation was mediated. All ok.
