MPD Reports: Motorists driving wrong way on Highway 78 likely due to medical issue

The City of Monroe Police Department reported the following incidents for the period Oct. 31 – Nov. 7, 2019. Due to the  length, this report has been split into five parts. This is the first part. Please note an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction.

  • Suspicious Vehicle – Cown Rd and Hwy 78 EB in the west bound lane. In reference to a red older model Toyota truck driving the wrong direction and Failure to maintain lane. Officer located the vehicle and made contact with subject who appeared to be having some kind of medical issue. Walton County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol responded on scene and assisted. Subject was turned over to EMS. The vehicle was left on Hwy 78 EB at Hwy 138 for a friend to retrieve. All okay. 
  • Suspicious Vehicle – Bridge of Georgia. In reference to a vehicle being parked next to the playground. The occupant was an employee who arrived before the facility opened and was sleeping in her vehicle. All ok.
  • Wanted Person – City Barn in reference to a subject having a city warrant. He was arrested and taken to the Walton County Jail.
  • Stranded Motorist – Hwy 78 West Bound and N Broad St. In reference to a red Ford Ranger with a flat tire. The driver advised all ok.
  • Shoplifting – 796 W. Spring St. – Beautyille. Unknown B/F took hair gel without paying. The female subject was gone on arrival. Report taken. Female was later identified as Yolanda Antonia Johnson. A warrant was taken for theft by shoplifting.
  • Mental Patient – Breedlove Drive in reference to subject having thoughts of taking her own life. Subject was turned over to EMS.
  • Agency Assist – E. Spring St. in reference to assisting Winder PD with locating a missing juvenile. Negative contact at Monroe Motor Inn and Popeyes. Skyview Estates was also checked due to a possible friend living in the area. Negative contact.
  • Shoplifting – W. Spring St. – Beautyille in reference to an unknown B/F taking scarfs. Female was gone on arrival. Report taken.
  • Meet with Officer – Towler St. in reference to meeting a resident about a stolen vehicle. The temp tag was previously stolen off the vehicle. She has since gotten a GA tag for the vehicle. All ok. The stolen tag was removed from GCIC. Supplemental report added.
  • Agency Assist – Towler St. in reference to missing juvenile’s phone pinging to the area. Negative contact.
  • EMS Assist – E. Church St. in reference to subject on location not breathing. MFD and Walton EMS performed CPR on scene. Subject was transported to Piedmont Walton and later pronounced deceased.
  • Entering Auto – Carver Place. Complainant called in reference to a stolen Glock 26 from his vehicle. Suspect is a named male who was possibly on King St. Gun was placed on GCIC. King St. was checked for the male subject. Negative contact.
  • Suspicious Person – Heritage Ridge Ct. Contact was made, subjects live in the area. All okay.
  • Suspicious Vehicle – on Hwy 78 W. Bound and Unisia Dr. in reference to a male subject who was wearing a camo jacket and driving a gray Jeep Cherokee, brandished a firearm at the complainant. An area check was conducted with negative contact.
