Obituary and funeral service: Alphonse Russo, Sr., 88, of Loganville

Alphonse Russo, Sr., 88 of Loganville, GA, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 from complications with pneumonia. Alphonse was born on November 17, 1931 in New Haven, CT. He was preceded by his parents, Alfonso Russo and Virginia Russo; brothers, Genaro Russo, John Russo, and Frank Russo; sisters, Pasqualina Decato, Asunta Decato, and Theresa Carangelo. He is the husband of Frances Russo; father of Evelyn Russo Arminio, West Haven, CT, Virginia Tureck, Bangor Maine, Alphonse Russo, Jr., Madison, CT, and Christopher Russo, Loganville, GA. He was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. 

He was born and raised in New Haven, CT. In 1954, he enlisted into the United States Army and was part of the Korean Conflict. After returning from Korea, he began his employment career as Machinist with the New York, New Haven, and Hartford Railroad, Pennsylvania Railroad, Conrail, and retired from Metro North Commuter Railroad in 1991. During his employment career, he was a member of the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace and a Local Union representative for many years. At the time of his retirement, he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada with his wife and became involved with the American Legion and the Las Vegas Boxing Association, where he developed many friendships. In 2001, both he and his wife moved to Loganville, GA, where he became involved with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the American Legion, and a member of the Night of Columbus. He loved to spending time with his family, playing golf, and cooking. 

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 24, 2020 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel, 3705 Highway 78 W, Snellville, GA 30039. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. A Christian Burial will follow at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, 3700 Stone Mountain Hwy, Snellville, GA 30039.

We also ask all guests and family members attending visitations and services to please bring and wear a mask.
