Thomas Love Smyrl, age 77 of Loganville, GA died peacefully at home on January 7, 2020. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 11, 2020, in the Loganville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Grey officiating. Tom was born in Camden, SC on April 6, 1942 to the late Elizabeth Denton Mears and the late Willie June Smyrl. Tom lived a faithful Christian life, proudly serving his country in the United States Coast Guard from 1962 through his honorable discharge in August of 1965. He served his church and community in many ways over the years: as a deacon in multiple churches, a Sunday School teacher for over 20 years, a youth sports coach, a Master Mason, and as a neighborhood volunteer. Tom spent most of his free time with family. Whether at the lake, golfing, fishing, or a simple gathering, being with his family was what mattered most to him. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Kate; sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Renee Smyrl; Kevin and Lisa Smyrl; and grandchildren. Morgan, Kyle, Philip, and Katherine—all of Loganville, GA. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make gifts in Tom’s memory to the Woodlake Baptist Church Building Fund www.woodlakebaptistchurch.org
