Obituary and funeral services: Charles Robert Yancey ‘High Pocket’, 90, of Loganville

Charles Robert Yancey “High Pocket”, age 90 of Loganville, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 27, 2019, at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Grayson with Rev. Thomas L. Jordan and Minister Don Hardison officiating. Interment will follow at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 2 PM prior to the service at the church and from 4 – 7 PM on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at Tim Stewart Funeral Home, 670 Tom Brewer Road, Loganville, GA 30052. Charles was a basketball player in school and served his country honorably as an Army Sargent during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church and General Motors UAW Local 10 Union in Doraville. Mr. Yancey was known for helping people, especially elderly people and their families. He helped care for both the Yancey and Phillips families. He also served on the board of directors at the American Legion Post 233 in Loganville. He was Sr. Vice Commander and a member of the Color Guard. Charles was preceded in death by his parents: Grover & Mattie Yancey; brothers: Ethan, Cecil, Herbert, Joe, Thomas & Hulon; sisters: Lear Martin & Imogene Hannah. He is survived by his loving Wife of 67 years: Nettie Phillips Yancey; Sister: Kathleen Rice of Acworth; and many Nieces & Nephews.
