Kathryn (Kathy) Ann Mathis Justice, 71, died January 10, 2018 at Great Oaks Assisted Living in Monroe, GA. She was born November 3, 1946 to Ira Buel (Bill) and Laura May Mathis in Booneville, MS.

Kathy grew up in the small town of Wheeler, MS and spoke fondly of her childhood adventures with her cousins. She attended the University of Mississippi and graduated with a BSEd degree in 1968. While attending Ole Miss she met the love of her life, Joe Justice, on a blind date arranged by her cousin Steve. Six months later Joe and Kathy were married and they celebrated 49 years of marriage this past September. Joe and Kathy moved to Georgia in 1969 and Kathy taught history at Walker High School in DeKalb County and later worked in the library at Emory University until the birth of her first child. After raising her two children she returned to teaching at Norton Elementary in Snellville. She retired in 2007 after 20 years at Norton to spend more time with her husband, children and grandchildren and to travel. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Snellville where she was a member of the Sonshine Sunday School class and volunteered with the church youth basketball league.

Kathy will be remembered for her love of family, dedication to teaching and faithfully serving as an example of Christ.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Frank (Joe) Justice, Jr., her two children Jill (Dr. Blake) Pruitt and Jason (Leigh) Justice; 5 grandchildren, Samuel and Sarah Pruitt and David, Jonathan and Gabe Justice; first cousins, Carolyn (James Stanley) Long, Steve (Cynthia) Greenhaw, Dr. David (Beverly) Greenhaw and their families.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Rd SW, Lilburn GA 30047 (lbda.org) or First Baptist Church Snellville Capital Building Campaign, 2400 Main St E, Snellville GA 30078.

Visitation will be held at Tom M. Wages Funeral Home located in Snellville, GA on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM with Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 PM.
