Obituary and funeral services: Mary Shepherd, 57, of Loganville

Mary Shepherd, 57, died June 22, 2019, at home with her loving family beside her. She fought a 20-year battle with breast cancer with unsurpassed grace and courage and was deeply loved and respected by all who knew her. Mary graduated from Vermont College and became an RN at age 19. She went to Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL and began her career as a Pediatric Intensive Care Nurse. She loved her work and came to Atlanta to work at Children’s Hospital and later became Trauma Coordinator and initiated the Life Flight Program. It was here she met her loving husband, Virgil Shepherd. They were a devoted couple and they raised their children in Loganville. They spent much time in Maine where they hoped to retire. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and daughter. She made many friends over the course of her life and kept them all. She was thoughtful, loyal, considerate and had a wonderful sense of humor. Her last project was a children’s storybook, titled Hugzbie Christmas Adventure, of which the proceeds are to be donated to non-profit children’s hospitals. She is survived by her husband, Virgil; daughter, Sarah; son, Daniel; step-daughter, Stephanie and Chris Shone; grandsons; Christopher and Nicholas; her dear mother-in-law, Janet Shepherd; parents, Bob and Marilyn Mahanor, her siblings, Mike and Terri Mahanor, Joe and Nadia Mahanor and Tali Mahanor; many aunts, uncles and cousins who were a big part of her life. Her Memorial Service will be June 27 at 4:00 pm with visitation at 3:00 pm at Tim Stewart Funeral Home Snellville, GA. Pastor Roger Aikens will officiate. Inurnment will follow at North Bridgton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a gift in memory of Mary may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
