Obituary and funeral services: Ralph Merron Peters, 92

Ralph Merron Peters, Sr. age 92, formerly of Athens, GA, passed away on October 2, 2018, in Columbus, GA. He was born in Monroe, GA on January 22, 1926, to the late Leonard Peters and the late Nellie Lemmonds Peters.

He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Athens. He was an active member of the Whitehead Road Athens Civitan Club since 1985, holding many positions in the local, state and regional chapters. His love for community service was also reflected in being a part of the Free Masons Mt. Vernon Lodge No. 22 since 1955 and the Yaab-Shriners Temple of Atlanta since 1987. He was also an active member of the VFW for over 30 years. He was a member of the Classic City Squares, where he served as president. He was also president of the Georgia Square Dancing Federation. He also worked as a salesman at Minish Pontiac for many years.

He was a devoted husband of 68 years to the late Valeria Stephens Peters of Monroe, GA. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, survived by his daughters and sons in law, Denise and David Lockwood of Lynchburg, VA, Nancy and Barry Cohen of Boca Raton, FL, Susan and David Norman of Winterville, GA, Stacey and Bryan Bonner of Columbus, GA; son and daughter in law, Ralph Merron Peters, Jr. and Terri Peters of Huntsville, AL; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Meadows Funeral Home in Monroe, GA on October 4, 2018, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 5, 2018, at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Granger officiating, while Merron Peters and Angie Lockwood will be speaking. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers please donate to Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital in Atlanta Georgia.
