Robert Edwin Chamblin passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018, in Loganville, Georgia. He was born on July 6, 1922, in Columbia, Missouri. He graduated from Higginsville High School and attended the University of Central Missouri until he enlisted in the Marines soon after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was part of the initial landing at Guadalcanal and also spent time in Australia before returning to the States. The military then sent him to study engineering at Franklin and Marshall, Bucknell, and Yale. Bob returned to Missouri and married Melba Marie Hart. They had two children, Cheryl and Robert, Jr. In 1955, the family moved to Miami, Florida, where Bob was employed by Pan American Airlines until he retired. The love of his life, Melba, passed away in 1994. In 2002, Bob moved to Loganville, Georgia to be near family. An accomplished woodworker, Bob made most of the furniture in his home as well as unique bowls and toys for his grandchildren. The family lovingly referred to him as “Bob, the Builder.” He was known for his skyhooks, which he enthusiastically gave to everyone he met.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Robert Louis Chamblin; his mother, Kathleen Gladish Chamblin; his sister, Mary Anne Chamblin Goetz; and his wife, Melba Hart Chamblin. He is survived by his children, Cheryl Chamblin Lambie (George) and Robert Chamblin, Jr (Ana); a sister, Katherine Chamblin Masden; a brother, James Coleman Chamblin; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 20, 2018 in the Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home in Loganville. Chaplain Jeff Clegg will officiate. Visitation will be held 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM prior to the funeral. A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM in the City Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri on Wednesday, October 24, 2018.
