John William Thompson, Sr., age 88 of Loganville, GA went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 29, 2018 following a brief illness.
Mr. Thompson was born on August 24th 1930 in Mercer County, KY to Robert Thompson and Mattie Fallis Thompson. At age 17 he joined the U.S. Army where he spent 22 years serving his country and rising to the rank of SFC (E7). Mr. Thompson was a true patriot who loved his country and proudly flew the American Flag daily. After retirement from the Army he then went into private business. Mr. Thompson was also a member of New Testament Baptist Church in Loganville where he served in many capacities.
Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mattie Thompson; sister, Mildred Fister; and two brothers, Buryl and Kenneth Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Thelma Hardy Thompson; son, John Thompson, Jr (Tracey); two daughters, Sharon Garcille (John) and Sheila Jenkins (Charles); 6 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
The Celebration of Life services will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 1:00 PM at New Testament Baptist Church, Loganville, Ga. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 1, 2018 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. At Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel, Snellville, GA. Burial at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA will be Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 12:30 PM.
