The Historical Society of Walton County is inviting the public to attend a Historic Rest Haven Cemetery Tour at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at 10:00 am. This tour will be conducted by Al Stephens, Trustee of the Society. He is experienced as a docent at the Historic Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, Ga. and participants will get to walk with him in History with some of Walton County’s Founders. Water will be provided. You are advised to wear comfortable shoes and clothes.
The starting location is Rest Haven Cemetery (corner of N Madison Avenue and Spring Street). Look for the Tim Stewart tent. The tour is scheduled to begin promptly at 10:00 am. Parking is available at the public city lot on Midland Avenue (next door to NAPA Auto Parts) or in the cemetery.
Rest Haven Cemetery is the cemetery that contains the graves of the Duncan family and was the location on June 8, 2019, of the military burial of fallen WWII Navy Reserve Seaman 2nd Class Deward William Duncan, Jr. 75 years after his death in the Gilbert Islands during the War.
Admission for the tour is free. It is sponsored by Tim Stewart Funeral Homes, Monroe.
