The City of Monroe is warning its utility customers that residents have reported receiving phone calls claiming to be from a city official advising that utilities would be disconnected. The caller ID gives the City of Monroe and the caller asks for payment over the phone.
“The City of Monroe does NOT demand payment over the phone and we will not ask customers for payment information over the phone,” The City of Monroe posted on its Facebook page. “This is a SCAM!!! Should you get this type of phone call, please hang up, and alert the police or sheriff of the phone number involved.”
