It may feel more like summer than it does spring, but the official spring season is ushered in this weekend in Downtown Monroe with the opening of the Monroe Farmers Market. You can purchase fresh produce, baked good, artisan crafts and more. Live music will greet you as you begin your stroll down Court Street between the booths.
This year, the Monroe Farmers Market is again partnering with Wholesome Wave Georgia, a nonprofit improving access to local, fresh, food. This market season, the Monroe Farmers Market is one of 67 producer-only farmers markets and direct marketing farms in Georgia that will sell their produce to federal nutrition assistance beneficiaries. It offers twice the value for their benefits through Georgia Fresh for Less.
In addition, the opening day features kids activities with games and information on summer activities for families and kids in a traditional Spring Fling atmosphere. Enjoy the morning, but drink lots of fluids as the temperature will be up in the 80s and the air quality is again classed a Code Orange for unhealthy air.
