Student at Loganville daycare center tests positive for COVID-19

Student tested positive but was asymptomatic

A student at a daycare in Loganville has tested positive for COVID-19. Don Boss, owner of Razzles Kid Academy in Loganville, confirmed that they were notified on Wednesday evening that one of their students did have a positive test for the coronavirus.

“We immediately implemented our response with the guidance of the CDC Augusta Medical Center, the Walton County Health Department and the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning,” Boss said. “Our No. 1 mission here is to provide a safe learning environment for our children and our employees who care for them.”

Boss said the working recommendations and guidance they have received from the CDC as well as through the local health department have really helped.

“This included closing the infected area for a deep cleaning and disinfecting and we notified anybody who had been in close contact,” Boss said. “We do not have to close. We have a lot of protocols in place already where we don’t cross-contaminate.”

Boss said classes are kept separate and teachers and students do not move back and forth between different classrooms. Under the COVID-19 guidelines, daycares have been open to help accommodate the children of essential workers who have had to work even through the most stringent of the shutdown. Daycare centers are governed by a different set of rules.

“We’re all thinking outside the box. It’s such a fluid learning environment at the moment. There’s this thing called digital learning and, in fact, we are talking with the Board of Education at the moment to see if there is a way we can help with parents who may want to homeschool when the students go back to school. Maybe there is a way where we can help out those parents,” Boss said. “We’re here for the kids and it is important because sometimes the parent still has to work.”

No details of the specific student are available due to HIPAA laws other than the student did test positive, but was asymptomatic.
