Teen life-flighted Sunday following dirt bike wreck at motorcycle track

A 16-year-old was life flighted to Gwinnett Medical Center Sunday after wrecking on his dirt bike while riding at the Scrubndirt moto-x track in Monroe.

Georgia State Patrol Trooper First Class Cal Barton said Grant Smith, 16, of Buford, was riding at the track on July 23, 2017 when, “he landed wrong,” according to the teen’s father.

“He was on a 2016 KTM 250 FX when he apparently landed wrong and was ejected from the motorcycle,” Barton said. “When I got there, there was no blood or obvious injuries, but he was having trouble with lack of feeling from below his waist. There were no drugs or alcohol involved. He had on the proper riding gear and everything. It was just an unfortunate event.”

Walton County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Keith Brooks said the last information he received was that the teen’s condition was stable.

Barton said a second incident involving a 13-year-old was handled by WCSO. That child was taken by ambulance to Gwinnett Medical Center.
