Walton County Athletes had many victories at the Georgia State Summer Special Olympics on Saturday, May 18, 2019, held at Emory University.
In one instance, one of the athletes was ahead for the majority of the 400 m race. Down the home stretch, he seemed assured of the win. Unfortunately, he fell. He had such difficulty getting up, that it caused him to fall two more times. Walton Athlete Emory Towler stopped to help and encourage his competitor. The athlete was able to get up and finish the race winning the bronze medal. Stories like these happen so often at Special Olympics. We are proud of all our athletes who demonstrate the true spirit of Special Olympics.
