A 29-year-old woman died in a wreck on Callie Still Road at around 4 a.m. this morning, Jan.8, 2019. This is the second fatality in Gwinnett County this year.
According to Gwinnett County Police Department, Lateika Powell, 27, of Monroe, was traveling northbound on Callie Still Road attempting to negotiate a curve while driving a beige Toyota Camry. Based on the preliminary investigation, she reportedly lost control of her vehicle crossing over the eastbound lane into the westbound lane and then left the roadway. Her vehicle went airborne and struck a tree on the driver’s side of the car.
Five people were inside the car at the time of the accident. Powell suffered serious injuries, Ebony Tate, 30, was the front seat passenger and had visible injuries. Two children in the back seat, Aaliyah Bonzales, 8, and Mykal Tate, 5, and Candice Tate, 29, all received serious injuries in the wreck and Candice Tate died as a result of her injuries.
GCPD said the vehicle has been impounded for fur impounded at GCPD headquarters for further analysis. Police say no charges have been filed at this time but could come at a later time.me, no charges have been filed in this case.
Gwinnett County Police Department confirmed that one person died in a single vehicle wreck overnight near 3173 Callie Still Road in the unincorporated Lawrenceville area of Gwinnett County. The accident happened between Harbins and Tribble Mill parks.
