Update: 8 taken to the hospital after wreck at Mt. Vernon and Mountain Creek Road Saturday

Georgia State Patrol Trooper First Class Cal Barton confirmed that a wreck at Mt. Vernon and Mountain Creek Road on Saturday night resulted in eight people being sent to the hospital. It happened at 9:42 p.m. on May, 5, 2018.

Barton said the first vehicle was a 1998 Toyota Pickup truck driven by Bao Van, 25. She had four passengers, a 32-year-old and three children, a 7-year-old, a 6-year-old and a baby less than a year. All were transported to Piedmont Walton. The second vehicle was a 2007 Toyota Sequoia, driven by Holly Prather, 41, of Good Hope. She had three passengers, all children, a 13-year-old, a 10-year-old and a 4-year old.

“All of them except for the 10-year-old were transported to Piedmont Walton,” Barton said. “In total, eight people were taken to the hospital.”

Barton said the Toyota pickup was traveling east on Mt. Creek Road, headed towards Athens, and the Toyota Sequoia was traveling south on Mt. Vernon. The pickup failed to failed to stop at the intersection and struck the Toyota Sequoia.

“The driver of the pickup was cited for failure to stop at the stop sign,” Barton said.

Walton County Fire Rescue is on the scene of a multiple vehicle accident at Mt. Vernon and Tommy Dillard Road in Walton County. Officials report as many as nine people injured. Avoid the area.
