Update: 83-year-old Monroe man dies in Highway 78 crash Wednesday

Update

An 83-year-old Monroe man died in a single vehicle accident on Highway 78 on Wednesday morning.

According to Cpl. Cal Barton with Georgia State Patrol, a 2005 Honda Pilot driven by Gerald Luenzmann, 83, of Monroe was traveling east on Georgia 10. For unknown reasons, he traveled off the south shoulder for a short distance and struck a tree. He did not survive his injuries. His female passenger was transported to Piedmont Athens with serious injuries.

There was a single vehicle crash on Highway 78 near Troy Smith Road on Wednesday morning resulting in serious injuries to two people, one critical.

“There were two patients transported by EMS to Piedmont Athens one female severe injuries, one male with critical injuries,” Walton County Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Craig League said. Both were senior adults.

Georgia State Patrol is working the crash. Further details will be provided when available.
