Update: Second arrest, two still being sought in connection with Lawrenceville murder

Update 04/11/2019:

 Earlier this week, the lead detective assigned to this case identified Shabazz Larry Guidry (age 24, Decatur) as another suspect in this double homicide.  He was charged with two counts of Concealing the Death of Another and two counts of Participating in Criminal Gang Activity.  He was arrested on Tuesday, April 9 and is currently booked at the Gwinnett County Jail. 

We are still seeking the whereabouts of Robert Maurice Carlisle and Justin Jamal Davis. 

At this time, specific details about each suspect’s involvement in the crime are not being released.

Update

On Tuesday, the lead Gwinnett County Police detective assigned to the case obtained arrest warrants for Justin Jamal Davis, 29, of Snellville in connection with the two bodies found in a storage unit in Lawrenceville on March 17. Davis has two active warrants for Conspiracy to Commit a Crime. His whereabouts are not known at this time and his specific involvement in this crime is not being made available at this time.

Robert Maurice Carlisle and Lesley Chappell Green are each facing two additional warrants in connection with this crime for Participating in Criminal Gang Activity. Green remains incarcerated at Gwinnett County Det3ention Center and Carlisle is still on the run.

Initial story

(Lawrenceville, Georgia) Two people have been identified and more suspects are sought in connection with a double murder with suspected gang-related connections. The Gwinnett County Police Department is investigating the murder of Derrick D. Ruff, 25, and Joshua L. Jackson, also 25, in coordination with the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

The bodies of Ruff and Jackson were found Sunday, March 17, 2019, inside a storage unit at Extra Space Storage at 2040 Lawrenceville Highway in the Lawrenceville area of Gwinnett County. Their next of kin have been notified.

The men had been reported missing through the Athens-Clarke County Police Department after last being seen in a Ford Expedition at about 10 p.m. on Dec. 18, 2018. The Ford Expedition was found abandoned in a neighborhood off Monfort Road in Lawrenceville 3 days later. Their bodies were located Sunday after GCPD and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force brought in cadaver dogs with Alpha Team K9 Seach and rescue and concentrated their efforts along an area of Lawrenceville Highway near Clearwater Place.  The dogs alerted to the storage unit. The bodies were subsequently found and police report the deaths were attributed to gunshot wounds.

So far, two people have been charged in this case.

  • Lesley Chappell Green (age 30, Stone Mountain) is currently in custody at the Gwinnett County Jail.  He is being charged with two counts of Concealing the Death of Another.
  • Robert Maurice Carlisle (age 32, Lithonia) has two active warrants for Concealing the Death of Another.  Carlisle is not in police custody.  His whereabouts are unknown.

GCPD reports that more people are expected to be charged and Green and Carlisle could face more charges. In the meantime, detectives are still trying to determine the link between the storage facility unit and the suspects and victims.

The renters of the unit are cooperating with the investigation.
