Initial Story
Walton County Public Schools has placed Youth Elementary School on Level 1 Lockdown as a precautionary measure due to unrelated police activity in the area.
“All students are safe and continuing normal classroom activities inside the building. At this time, the school plans to dismiss at their regular time,” said Callen Moore, public information officer for WCPS.
Capt. Scott Whisnant, public information officer for Walton County Sheriff’s Office, said there is currently a manhunt for one individual after he and another fled on foot from deputies after allegedly stealing a motorcycle from Gwinnett County.
“We currently have one individual in custody and hope to have the other one in just a few,” Whisnant said. “We are currently working near Gum Creek Church Road. We saw the two and before we had a chance to get up on them they ditched the vehicle and fled on foot. They are not near the school at this time but it has been placed on lockdown just as a precaution.”
