The gas leak on N. Wayne Street in Monroe has been capped, but the road remains closed due to ongoing construction.
A gas leak has temporarily shut down N Wayne Street in Monroe, according to officials with the Monroe Fire Department. This was reported at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018. Monroe Assist. Fire Chief Bill Owens said the Fire Department is standing by during repairs. He said Wayne Street is closed, but everything else is open.
“Apparently they were digging and hit the gas line,” Owens said.
