The Georgia Bureau of Investigation were contacted to investigate an overnight police-involved shooting in Monroe on Nov. 18, 2019. The GBI released the following statement in connection to the incident.
Preliminary information indicates that last night around 9:30 pm, Monroe PD responded to a 911 hang up call at the Haven Inn in Monroe, GA. Once officers arrived, it was determined there was a dispute between the hotel and patrons. Monroe PD officers made repeated attempts to identify a male subject on scene. Chad Joyner, age 35, was located in a Jeep, refused officers’ commands, and suddenly accelerated. One officer fired at the vehicle. Joyner was struck at least twice. Joyner was taken to a hospital where he continues to be treated.
No officers were injured in the incident.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Walton County District Attorney for review.
Monroe Police Department report that officers with Monroe Police Department responded to a 911 hang up at Haven Inn on at about 9:19 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, 2019. According to a press release officers were on scene and trying to identify a subject involved in the dispute when the situation allegedly escalated into an officer-involved shooting. The suspect was injured and transported to Piedmont Athens with non-fatal injuries. No officers were injured.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called to the scene and is investigating the incident.also iso is conducting an internal investigation.
Monroe Police Chief R.V. Watts confirmed Monday night that police are working an officer-involved shooting in the area of the Haven Hotel on Spring Street in Monroe. Witnesses report a helicopter was over the scene, but Watts did not confirm that. He would only say at this time that it is an ongoing active investigation.
