UPDATE: House destroyed by fire in Monroe Monday night

Monroe Fire Asst. Fire Chief Bill Owens said Monroe Fire fought a structure fire at 520 Maple St. after a call came in at 9:22 p.m.

“The first crews found heavy fire conditions when they arrived. Initial attack crews had to be pulled back as the roof collapsed. The fire was quickly brought under control but the house is considered a total loss,” Owens said. “Investigators are currently on the scene but due to the extensive damage and roof collapses interior investigations was stopped.”

Owens said the cause will most likely not be known until after the sun comes up Tuesday morning when interior investigations resume. He confirmed there were no injuries during the fire.

Initial story

Officials with Monroe Fire Department confirm there was a working fire at 517 Maple St. in the City of Monroe. Fire crews from Monroe Fire Department and Walton County Fire Rescue were dispatched at 9:22 p.m.

Capt. Jeff Allen with WCFR said that the home was a total loss, but no injuries were reported in the fire. Monroe Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire.
