Update: Tuesday Dec. 26, 2017
Georgia State Patrol Trooper First Class Ca Barton reported at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 26, 2017 that Highway 11 is still closed at Mount Paran Church Road due to a two-vehicle crash that happened just before 6 p.m. on Christmas day. One man was transported by life flight to Grady Memorial Hospital and the other received minor injuries and was taken to Clearview Regional Medical Center.
“A 2014 black Lincoln MKS passenger car was traveling west on Mount Parant Church Road. It was driven by Jerry Ray Scatterday, 72, from Norcross, and a 1995 Ford Explorer was traveling north on Georgia 11. It was driven by James Ricky Chester, 61, from Monroe. The Lincoln failed to stop for the stop sign on Mount Paran, traveled into the intersection and struck the Ford Explorer on the right side,” Barton said. “The Explorer was overturned by the impact, causing it to continue, overturning off the west shoulder of Georgia 11 before coming to a final rest. The Lincoln rotated clockwise and backwards off the south shoulder of Georia 11, striking the natural gas meter causing the leak.”
Barton said Scatterday was transported via ambulance to Clearview Regional Medical Center for minor injuries and was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign.
“Chester was transported to Grady via helicopter for moderate injuries,” Barton said. “The road is still closed due to the gas meter/line repair.”
Barton said there were two eyewitnesses to the crash, one traveling south when the accident happened right in front of him.
“The other was a Barrow County Deputy Sheriff that was behind the Ford Explorer traveling north,” Barton said.
Georgia State Patrol is reporting the gas leak is the result of a two vehicle crash with injuries. One driver is being life flighted and it is not clear yet where the other driver is being transported to. Highway 11 is completely shut down for an unknown amount of time due to the gas leak.
Walton County Sheriff’s Office is reporting just after 6 p.m on Monday, Dec. 25, that Highway 11 at Mt. Paran Road has been shut down due to an accident with injuries and a gas leak. The road is likely to be shut down for up to two hours.
