Update: Brother charged with murder after suspicious death investigation

Update

A 32-year-old man has been arrested and charged in the death of Kayon Dandrell King. Maj. Scott Whisnant of Walton County Sheriff’s Office said Ricky Lavar Thompson turned himself into the Walton County Detention Center at about 8 p.m. on Saturday evening. Thompson is charged with murder, involuntary manslaughter, battery and for a parole violation. He is currently being held without bond. He is the half-brother of the victim.

According to the incident report, WCSO deputies were dispatched to 969 Anna Marie Lane, Monroe on Thursday evening, April 2, 2020, regarding an EMS assist call. They arrived to find the victim lying on the floor beside the couch. He was not breathing and reportedly had severe head trauma.

The scene was secured and the coroner, WCSO detectives and Georgia Bureau of Investigation were called in to investigate.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are investigating a suspicious death that occurred yesterday, April 2, 2020, at 969 Anne Marie Lane in the unincorporated Monroe area of Walton County. This was confirmed by Maj. Scott Whisnant, public information officer for WCSO.

“This is an ongoing investigation and no other details will be released at this time,” Whisnant said.
