It was not a good night for most of the local high school football teams Sept. 27 with George Walton Academy again being the lone victor in all the games played. The Bulldogs trounced Lakeview Academy 55 – 12 at home on Sept. 27. The team is home again on Oct. 4 when it has a conference game against Providence Christian Academy. The wins, however, have not managed to move them up in the rankings. After last week’s adjustment, Maxpreps has GWA losing 203 places in the national rankings, dropping the team to 3523, and 4 places in the state rankings dropping the Bulldogs down to 200.
Loganville Christian Academy lost the away non-conference game to Tiftarea Academy on Friday 38 – 31. The team has a bye week this Friday and is on the road again Oct. 11 for an away non-conference game at Deerfield-Windsor in Albany. Last week’s loss, however, did not cost the Lions any place in the rankings. In fact, the Lions gained 65 places on the national rankings, bringing them up to 7768, and 4 on the state rankings taking them up to 352.
Walnut Grove’s woes continue with yet another loss. The Warriors lost the non-conference game against North Oconee 59 – 7. The revision on the rankings didn’t go in the Warriors favor either. The team dropped 468 places to 8601 on the national rankings and 5 on the state rankings to 375. On Oct. 4, the Walnut Grove varsity football team has a home conference game against the Loganville Red Devils.
Loganville’s Varsity team didn’t do so well in Atlanta last Friday either, losing to St. Pius X Catholic School 23 – 6. And nor did the updated rankings go in the Red Devil’s favor either. The team lost 478 places in the national rankings, dropping it to 5772, and 5 on the state rankings, dropping it to 283.
It wasn’t a good night for Monroe Area either, with the team going down to Morgan County 17 – 27. The updated rankings have the Hurricanes down 956 places on the national rankings to 3492 and down 41 on the state rankings to 198. But that still keeps Monroe Area with the highest rankings in the county. The Monroe Area varsity football team has a home conference game against East Jackson on Oct. 4.
Social Circle took another beating last week in Elberton where the Redskins lost to Elbert County 56 – 7. The Social Circle varsity football team has a home conference game this week against Oglethorpe County. But, despite a run of losses, Social Circle managed to gain 94 places in the national rankings, bringing it up to 11,925, and 5 on the state rankings where it now holds a place at 444.
And still the endless summer continues. Look for temperatures to again be in the 90s for the 7:30 p.m. kickoff time.
