Update

Georgia State Patrol reports that at about 12:20 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, troopers responded to a single vehicle crash involving a City of Social Circle fire truck. According to the initial investigation, “the fire truck was responding in emergency mode to a structure fire with lights and siren activated. The fire truck was negotiating a left hand turn when the passenger side tires left the roadway to the right. The driver overcorrected crossing the center line, the driver again overcorrected, traveling back across the roadway, now yawing clockwise. Vehicle 1 then left the roadway, traveled down an embankment and overturned/rolled. Impact with the ground due to rollover caused a total collapse of the cab of the fire truck.” Both occupants were transported to medical facilities to be treated for injuries. According to Social Circle Fire Chief Ken Zaydel, the driver has been admitted to Grady ICU in serious but stable condition. The passenger was treated and released.

Hawkins Road is now open.

Initial story
Two Social Circle firefighters have been injured in a single vehicle accident that happened in the same place as last week’s accident that injured two Walton County firefighters. In this incident, it was Social Circle Engine 6 that ran off the road.
“One firefighter was entrapped and had to be extricated, he was transported by ground ambulance to Grady Hospital. He has serious injuries,” said Batallion Chief Craig League with Walton County Fire Rescue. “The other firefighter was transported to Piedmont Walton with minor injuries.”
League said Units were on route to a working house fire at 4685 Hawkins Academy Road.
“The crash is under investigation. Georgia State Patrol is investigating and I’m on the way there now,” said Social Circle Police Chief Tyrone Oliver. The accident happened on Hawkins Road, about 25 feet from where last week’s accident was. It was outside the city limits of Social Circle.”
Walton County Sheriff’s Office said Hawkins Road is closed for the moment from Social Circle Fairplay Road and Knox Chapel Road and will be for an undeterminated time. League said GSP is conducting an in-depth investigation into this accident with the SERT team.
