Veterans Day 2019 was marked in Walton County by a ceremony at the new Veterans Memorial in Monroe at 9 a.m. and then at American Legion Post 233 at 11 a.m. followed by a luncheon.

U.S. Congressman Jody Hice (Ga.10) was the keynote speaker and the Monroe Area High School Band performed patriotic music for the ceremony at the new Walton County Veterans Memorial.

At the later ceremony in Loganville, Loganville Mayor Rey Martinez, himself a veteran, announced that the City of Loganville would be proclaimed a Purple Heart City. That proclamation was subsequently signed on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019.
